Stock Wiring Harness Questions
Hey Guys,
Does anyone know what gauge of wire is used in the stock wiring harnesses of our cars?
I mean for the majority of wires - I know that some wires like the alt charge wire are larger (8 awg in that case I think).
I'm thinking of re-doing my harness at some point and I want to go up a size (or rather, down a gauge) while I'm at it.
Also, I know where to get the connectors/spades for the most common 1,2,4,6, and 8 pin connections in the car (Eastern Beaver), but there is that big honkin orange connector on the passenger's side that looks different from the others. Does anyone know what kind of connector that is and where to get one (and/or spare spades for it?).
Same question for the connectors on the back of the instrument panel or any other weird and wonky ones you guys can think of.
Cheers,
Jon

John, the wiring as may may know is mixed but I believe the majority is 16 gauge wiring. The big yellow connector on the passenger side is for the harness going to the ecu and to the emissions harness. The twin round connectors on the back of the cluster are very unique. I've never owned another car with ones like the RX-7 has.

For example, most of the connectors in the car are the '.250" Connectors' by Yazaki available here:
https://easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec_...onnectors.html
So I've already replaced almost all of the connectors of that type on the car and I have bags of spare terminals and spades just in case.
But that orange connector for the ECU doesn't take the same terminals and spades. I can't even figure out how to release the existing ones from the connector housing!
I'm hoping someone can help identify the connector type so I can at least replace the terminals/spades.
It looks kind of like the 'PA .120" Connectors' by Yazaki on that same page but I'm not sure.
Same thing for the terminals on the instrument cluster - if I can't get the connector housing then I'm hoping we can identify the terminals so I can pop them out of the housing and replace them with fresh ones.
