The 79-83E have the shorter radiator as the oil cooler is mounted under the radiator.

The 83L-85 radiator is identical across the model range, to include the SE. It's a taller radiator than the 79-83E and extends into the space where the previous oil cooler would mount. The front mount oil cooler on the GSL-SE sits in front of the radiator at the lower mounting points. The other trim levels with a 12A, S, GS, and GSL have the beehive style oil cooler that sits on top of the engine behind the oil filler neck.

I was going to mention that E is early build and L is late build. The difference is that later in the 83 model year, Mazda switched the 83's over to the beehive style oil cooler.

Listing is gone now. Non-beehive cars had a shorter radiator so the oil cooler could sit below it.

Ebay is FULL of these Rads for sale. $125 and up. All appear to come from the same Chinese factory. I bought and tried one 6 yrs ago and was disappointed (others with success PLEASE chime in!). Leaked along welds, mount points for everything (FMOC mounts, chassis mounts) were just slightly off enough to either be 'modified ' to work or really 'stretched' to attach. Shame they couldn't get the extra few mm's right.

I to bought a "Champion" ebay radiator. Out of the box it looked great for the price but had bad fitment. I could have modded it but opted to buy the Spectra CU97. If you go the Spectra path shop around.

The stock radiator in my SA bit the dust recently (still have it for future repair if needed) and I picked up an eBay one recommended by some friends. Was it perfect? Not exactly. Did it fit? Yes (mostly), and it's working great. I'll try to get a link sometime later, although the listing may be gone by now.

The oil cooler mounts worked okay, although their solution to a slightly wide core was to bend the rad support flanges. A few moments with the vise fixed that and since then I've had no issues at all. The stock coolant level sensor also does not fit, which bothered me slightly, but if you can find a sensor for 1/4 npt then you may have a solution - unfortunately I have not yet and it's not high on the to-do list.

The radiator you are looking at appears to be an S3 rsdiator and if you have a S3, it should work just fine in your car. As other have stated, fitment may be an issue so you may have to modify the mounting points.

This is the generic chinese/locally rebranded 3 row S1+ rad I bought. So beware as myself and others warn. Fitment is not perfect. The FMOC mount threads are off and will require some, ah, "stretching" of your rubber FMOC mounts to fit (now is an EXCELLENT time to replace these BTW, since they are still - for the moment - available new from Mazda, etc.). And yes, the rad level sender hole on the top is incorrectly sized too. You are getting what you pay for here.
I dumped mine (posted earlier on this) and went for the Spectra 2 row. Dropped right in, everything mounts like it is supposed to. Paid about $225

I bought one of the aluminum chineseium ones and it's been good. One weld leaked, but I welded it up. Fitment is good except one tab I had to drill a new hole.

I've had mine for about 5 years. Definitely keeps the motor cool.
