Wow... I think you badly need a tranny fluid change...

Sounds like it's time to degrease everything and start looking for where the leak is coming from. And get those gauges fixed. Temp and oil pressure are critical items to monitor. If you think it got hot, address the cooling system, immediately.

Well I think there's at least a good chance that the tranny is pooched, but try fluid first... and some of that Lucas Tranny Fix too...

I think its more likely that you are leaking motor oil onto your exhaust. Check the oil cooler (if you have the beehive type) and your OMP first.

That wouldn't explain the shifter full of oil...

My bad... I misread your post...

Yeah, I suppose an oil leak is possible too... Didn't think of that...

Good catch Kentetsu

Thanks man. Been there, done that. Whenever oil hits the exhaust it tends to move upward in the most direct route it can find. If he looks behind the engine, into the tranny tunnel, he might see a smoke stain leading up into the engine compartment too. First thing I ever fixed on my car. Sitting at lights, the smoke coming up through the shifter boot made me want to puke.

The only place I've ever leaked oil is around the bottom of the shitty oil pan gasket...

just a thought check front and back seals on trans..remember a spinning "thingy" (i know not right words) will flick oil all over the friggin place..some could of landed on your exhaust and that hole is the only place it can escape through ..maybe gettin sucked in to interior of the car..as i said my $.02..good luck ..let us know what you encountered ..misterstyx69 ..ya also check trans fluid..see ya!
