Ruff Ride...
Does your rex have a rough ride?
mine does, i mean i feel everything in the road, everything. I also have a lot of creaks and rattles in my car. are there any spots that are common to rattle that i need to look at, or just track each and every one of them? also, what contributes to the rough ride, tires, suspension. I have all the stock suspension, lots of bushings that are busted and torn. The tires that i have are old Continentals that are horrible, you would start crying if you saw them. are the tires the main contributing factor to the rough ride?
thanks a lot guys.

It's an RX-7, it's supposed to make your kidneys hurt!
Seriously, the cars are rather stiffly sprung and damped even in stock trim... they used to brag that the car only leaned 1 degree at .5g cornering force, or something to that effect. (Which means nothing to me - body roll isn't indicative of cornering ability) I'm sure someone will chip in with a correction

However, if you have a 17+ year old car with original suspension (worn), and bad tires (Big Problem), then what do you expect? Torn bushings is bad, that usually means metal to metal contact (not good)
Get New shocks, springs, bushings, and tires, and your car will feel like a Cadillac by comparison, and handle MUCH better.
Oh, and welcome back.
yeah, i mean, i love the way it handles now which aint to great, but it gets kinda annoying in the city.
i think that speaks more for the crappy roads in town, though.
i'm thinking the tires are a main factor.
thanks for the welcome direct and itsweapon, sorry man, but this is a RX-7 board. deal with it.

Hey, a friend of mine just got a ZX2... those things really haul! I think they're something like mid-15's in stock trim. Much better than any ol' Focus (although they are similar mechanically, same basic driveline) GSL-SE power and torque in an SA22C-weight chassis - gotta love it! Too bad it's wrong-wheel drive... then again that just means he gets to learn left-foot-braking to get around corners quicker
Coincidentally, ZX2s ride like RX-7s... nice and firm
Not *as* stiff, you know, but pretty durn close.
BTW do you know why Hondas have reverse-rotation engines and mount the engine on the opposite side of the car?

HEY HEY!
Theres absolutely NOTHING wrog with having a Hon-Duh...... dammit we all need to drive something while the baby (Rx-7) gets fixed up and lord forbid you should wanna driver her during one of these crazy *** NY winter storms (IF and WHEN they happen)...
P.S. my "other" car is a jeep.... my roomate has a Hon-Duh Prelude which Im helping him modify so I can still blow his doors off. He says I WANT TO GO AS FAST AS YOU..... and I reply.. HOPE YOU GOT LOTS OF $$$!!!
.....damn crows keep flyin out in front me!!

I like a stiffer than stock ride in any car I have. Max pressure on my tires is 35... I have almost 50 in them. Both on my Honduh and my RX-7...
Ride feels better, milage goes Up, handling isn't as squishy.
Yes, I know... I work at a tire shop... Overinflation causes accelerated wear along the center of the tire... But remember... I work at a tire shop... Tires at cost baby!

When I drove my rex for the first time, I thought about when I went joy riding in my go cart on just the rims
I had the kida go cart, that was a solid frame without shock or whatever
BUT IT WAS FUN!!! LATERZ, Andrwe

i want any kind of rex so bad
Re: Ruff Ride...
[QUOTE] what contributes to the rough ride..?
I think non-adjustable gas shocks contribute the most. It's certainly not the stock springs, which were about 90-100 lbs when brand new?.. and they're even less stiff now.
I'm running non-adjustables with stock springs, and it's harsh. I want to get some adjustable gas shocks.. and then maybe some stiffer springs.
