Backfires alot and ruff idle
I just bough the car not long ago, its a 80 with a GSL SE engine streetported converted to carb. It has a solex carb, headers straigh pipe all the way down with two silencer's.
The problem is , its very hard to get started, floods very easily and when its started idle is really ruff and when on the gas it keeps backfireing like all the time. If i rev it to 3krpm it will pop atleast 5 times.
What could be the problem.
Thanks

^check the ignitors...check for spark. Also make sure all of your plug wires are on correct. Pull the plugs and make sure they aren't fouled.
If all looks good on the ignition side do a quick compression check. There is no point going any further if you have bad compression (blown seals).
Then start to work on the carb tuning. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? First things first, get it to idle. Check the float levels. Adjust the idle mixture screw until it smoothes out, then adjust the idle speed to somewhere around 750 rpm and adjust the mixture screw again. After you get it idling worry about the progressive and main jetting. I am not sure where you can locate jets for your car...somebody else will have to help there.
