88t2 Turbo question "help"

Yesterday when driving home my car just shutoff in the middle of the freeway. I let it cool down for a second and when I started it it was kind of ruff. I took it easy all the way home but right before I got their the car became really ruff and loss power and shutdown. I pushed it home and pulled the plugs out and checked compression it was fine So then I started it and the noise seemed to be coming from the turbo. I checked it and it had had shaft play. But today I called turbo city and they said that the turbo wouldnt do that type of stuff so I am lossed if any body could help.

Umm... how did you check the compression? did you hold the nipple down and look for bounces? Were the bounces even? What were your numbers from each rotor, perhaps we can help

did you check all your intercooler hoses. i had the same problem and it turned out one of them had popped off. check to make sure none of them are loose or cracked. how much shaft play does the turbo have. they are supposed to have a little but they shouldn't be wiggly or anything. what sort of a noise was it. usually when a turbo goes it is a fairly loud screeching sound. a little more info and then maybe we can help

Shut off when going to a stop have not checked intercooler yet but my car at the end was sounding bad like my motor was letting go and the shaft play was not that bad but it did move.

Ya not really sure whats going on it is a new engine with 1200 miles on it and I broke it in good just started boosting the other day to 11 psi with 850 secondary injectors and a big streetport no smog blocked off vacuum 3" down pipe no ac or power steering or fan allways looked at my air fuel metter and never ran lean allways stood pretty cool but anyways when I got home today I checked the intercooler and everything seemed good and of course I checked the compression and it seemed to be good never dropped out and pulled 115 on a straight check but I still have this bad vibration coming from it I think it might be a lose bolt on the flywheel because I allready checked compression and put on a better used turbo that I had on so has anybody ever had a loose flywheel bolt that made you car vibrate really bad but idle fine and rev fine just loud thanks again for all you help

I think a couple lose flywheel bolts would cause alot of noise. If they weren't torqued down enough that may be part of the problem

Right at the end of the year in my autotech class there was a toyota truck that came in, and was vibrating and being very loud at idle. When we revved it i think the sound went away or got quieter, and the sound also went away when you pushed the clutch pedal in, does yours do the same thing? My teacher said it had a loose flywheel bolt most likely, but we hadn't taken it apart by the end of the year so I'm not sure if thats really what it was. Also check your battery for any problems, my friend had problems with his battery terminals hitting the hood grounding out since it wasnt tied down, and i think i remember the car would shut off while he was driving when it did that.

Good idea, check the battery connections...Do you run a high flow exhaust? A clogged cat maybe wouldn't cause it to shut down, but it might help it run very rough? Good luck/skill

So when your car shut off on the freeway, did you lose all power to everything? If so, maybe get the alternator checked out too, when my friends alternator was dying I think i remember his car losing all power randomly.
