Rebuilding front end.

Hi guys . I own a 79' Rx7 and recently started hearing a clunk sound coming from the front when I brake . I figure something down there is worn but might as well replace everything down there .
Does any one have a list of what i need to buy ?

Even if you do replace everything, validate what is bad first.

1. Inner/outer tie rods and adjuster
2. Sway bat bushings.
3. Control arms - If they are bad
4. Idler arm bushings.

Would you mind explaining to me how to test each one . I figure giving them a good tug to see if anything clunks should work ?

Put the front on jack stands. Take a pry bar and check for play in the lower control arm ball joints. They are grease and the factory ones do not have a grease zert. Most often, the rubber splits and gets dirt and loses grease.

Check the inner and out tie rods the same way.

The idler are is easy by just grabbing the arm and see if it has slack up and down.

The bushing for the sway bar will get smooched and dry. They will be bad. Energy Suspension sells these or a complete kit for the RX-7.

Another thing to replace would be the trans mount and the engine mounts. Be careful with the engine mounts. We've had a lot of folks on here by them and they didn't really fit and had to cut a part of the cup.

You will need an alignment afterwards.

+1 to all that. just get under it and see if anything is loose/worn/broken. idler arm is maybe the first stop, the bushings go bad and its loud.

extra points for getting under there with a torque wrench (so +2?), the next bonus point is that Mazdas comp manual wants the upper end of the torque spec (+3!)

if you need/want i'm happy to post a parts list, with a picture this time

Does any one recommend Techno Toy tuning control arms over OEM . OEM arms don't have replaceable ball joints ( You can but mazda doesn't endore this )

the heim joint inner pivot is probably not a great idea in a street car. the stock rubber bushing lets you hit stuff without bending things, the heim joint doesn't.
however running a spherical joint on the street has been done, so its more of a thing you should be aware of, and not a deal breaker
