Question about Steering box and Pitman arm

I have quite a bit of slack in the steering wheel.

I put the 7 on the lift and when I move the wheel, i can see a bit of lateral movement between where the pitman arm attaches to the steering box. Looks like there used to be some rubber there that is no longer.

Question is, would replacing the pitman arm fix that movement, or is movement between the arm and the box a problem with the box?

Thanks

Movement between the pitman arm and the center link would indicate a bad pitman arm. If its the gear box that is showing movement, then it needs to be adjusted. You can refer to this thread for help on that (look for my post):

Also, the idler arm is the most common culprit. You can buy a stronger "race version" of the idler arm which is much much more durable from Mazdatrix or Racingbeat, or you can save 30 bucks and order the same thing from www.rockauto.com Just look for the Moog idler arm.

+1 on the Moog Idler Arm. The Mazdatrix/Racing beat bushings are a band aide and do not solve the problem. The Moog Arm is really heavy duty and greaseable. All of the racecars in KC have the Moog Idler arm.
