Pop!

Coming home the other day all was good, then I hear this POP! I think WTF! Then the motor is hardly running. It won't barely go up the incline for an overpass. So, I take it that the motor is shot. Where can I find a complete rebuild kit?

Damn I hate this! She was running so strong too.

Do a compression test first to be sure.

I popped mine last Feb. Not that you can call that winter in Cali, but strictly talking it was winter.

Mine hasn't been starting well since the temp. has dropped to around 30 here in Tennessee. If I leave it in the garage (heated) all night and then start it, it starts fine. Leave in the cold for the night and it won't start worth a dang. Maybe it's my choke, I dunno. I know this though, even after I finally get it started it runs really rough until it hits N.O.T. (normal oper. temp.)

I had a rotary go out on me a few years back in January. It was cold, snow on the car even. I had been running it on just one rotor for a couple months and then one cold day in January it just never started back up. VERY low compression, I'm sure it was apex's. I didn't know whether to blame it on the cold though since it was already only running on one rotor.

I've noticed that too. A lot of people do seem to be popping their engines lately. Maybe we should add an 'engine seal freshening up' to the routine maintenance schedule or something?

I've said before that rebuilding a rotary engine is no more difficult than rebuilding a carb. Maybe a slight exageration, but I mean c'mon there are only two rotors and a few seals in each one. It's not THAT difficult. I have two engines to rebuild in the coming month and then another in the spring; all caught before anything popped. I wouldn't call it good timing or luck—I'd call it routine maintenance.

paying $500 bucks for a gasket set, putting everything back together, and THEN finding out you F***'D something up scares me a bit.

Paying $96 for a gasket set (they were that price last year) and tearing it back apart a year later to port it even further is priceless.

That's cheap. I got the $500 price last time I checked out the Atkins kit. Isn't it highly recommended to replace the apex seals and all?

Could I really rebuild mine for $100? I have street port templates that I bought off of Ebay. I think they were from Pinapple racing. If could find someone to port it (or me with the right knowledge and tools) and put it back together for 100 bucks, get-r-done!

The gasket set alone is about $100 its not a kit.. Atkins sells a basic rebuild kit that comes with main seals and some other crap, including apex and corner seals and Viton oil seals, which a gasket set doesnt come with... Some ppl need to open their eyes a little more.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=363616 Check that out, $500 for a full rebuild kit, as opposed to the $800 from racingbeat or the stealership.
