Pics of half-bridge REW/62-1, bound for my -SE
Not much to report. Spent a few days troubleshooting the CAS. The Haltech seemed to be ignoring the input entirely. Went as far as checking the continuity on the wires. Everything checked out but neither the injectors or ignition would fire.
Ludwig came over to help twice, but nothing seemed to work... Finally, after reloading the map a few times it miraculously started working. No clue what the problem was, but apparently I'm back on track. While cranking it over to zero the timing the car actually started up for a split-second!
After rigging the turbo oil-drain, I double-checked everything and gave it a shot... It flooded out instantly. I cranked the battery down to 9volts, and broke out the jumper cables. After an hour of popping out fuses and breathing fuel vapor I packed it in.
Oh well, back at it tomorrow. I had a video camera on it the entire time, but the only thing I managed to record was a lot of cranking and swearing. I'll have it rolling when it finally does come to life.

While I'm awaiting a few more Summit parts and wiring help to get it running, I decided to start the body work. Last night I broke out the sanding-block and DA and went to work on the bumpers and fenders. I worked for 3 hours sanding and water-sanding from 60 to 600 grit. The result? ONE panel complete.
My goal is to get everything from the firewall forward in primer and on the car this weekend. I'll take pics along the way.
We'll call this the "before" pic:

Oy. I'm never gonna be finished with this thing...

I agree, but i think you should get the airdam from blackdragon its perfect for a front mount.

The one on the right looks good with a intercooler.

The FMIC is tucked pretty well into the radiator shroud, right above the stock oil-cooler which keeps the plumbing short. It's not really visible unless you get down below the bumper and look. I kinda like it hidden. Here's a pic:

Two stage primer/water sanding on 29 year old parts can take a while....
I'm assembling the doghouse this week, using parts from '78, '79, '80, and '82. Working on a complete SA22 front-end conversion, with an IMSA lip. I've attached some images of the work in progress...
Passenger side fender ('78 SA22):

Lower apron ('79 SA22)

Headlight doors ('82 FB)

Bumper shocks ('78 SA22)

Bumper ('80 SA22)

Still a ton more work to do. It's labor intensive, but the new panels going on the car are flawless. I plan on hitting it with a couple coats of Mazda K3 when it's all said and done.
If my summit order shows up this week, I'll post a start-up video sometime this weekend.

Custom Howe-core radiator, as large as I could fit. I think it was a little over $300 new. I can send you the dimensions and specs but you'll have to make a custom lower hose. You also have to keep an eye on where you put the nose of the car... One little off-road excursion will take it out completely. I have never had a problem keeping it cool tho.

Radiator dimensions for anyone wanting to build the absolute largest radiator you can fit in an FB:
It is 21" tall, 24-1/2" long (including the end tanks), 3" wide. I had them weld on two 1-1/2" x 0.075" ears on each side of the radiator, flush with the front-side. The inlet/outlets are 1-1/2" diameter, both on the right side (dual-pass) 3/4" from the top and bottom of the tank respectively. An extra 1/2" NPT bung is welded in 2" above the lower inlet to accommodate a fitting for the factory heater-hose. You can delete this option if you'd like. I also had a 1/8" NPT drain plug on the bottom.
This radiator sits well below the front way bar, it's so low that it can become a problem if you encounter any obsticles over 3" tall in the road. My car is lowered in the front and I have impacted the radiator with raised pavement. Luckily, I've never managed to break the core.
I installed mine using the stock radiator shroud with 1/2" spacers from the front of the car. Using the spacers allows the radiator to clear the sway bar.
This radiator sits very close to the nose of my water-pump, so I use a very low-profile electric cooling fan. I bought mine from Summit, but cannot find the part on their site anymore. A flex-a-lite fan should work.

The "brap brap brap" idle became much more pronounced after it warmed up. Funny thing is it doesn't sound any louder at idle than my old SP S4 motor. Don't know what I was expecting... I bet it'll be a lot louder at WOT.
Today, I'm a happy man!
