Oil leaking but then also not leaking... Eh?

Yay, if it's not one problem, then it's another.

After a drive today I parked the car and went to look it over while it was still running. Upon taking a peek underneath I saw some pretty active dripping from the rear right corner of the oil pan. Car was on a bit of an incline, with its butt dipping down, so that's probably why the oil was dripping from that spot.

I freaked out, obviously, because I didn't know how long it was dripping for, and whether I lost a lot of oil or not. So I pulled into the garage, shut it down, and checked oil level. It was good. Whew...ok. Then I looked under the car. There was one last drop, and that was it. I fired the car up again - no dripping. Odd. Then I figured it must be because of the incline, oil pooling up in the back of the pan. Jacked up the front of the car, fired it up - no dripping. Let it sit for a bit revving it and letting it warm up as much as I could - no dripping. Umm... wtf.

Closer inspection under the car shows that oil is seeping around the oil pan gasket, on exhaust side of the rear rotor and plate. All other areas look dry.

Is it possible the gasket has failed already? From what I understand I have a stronger oil pump and other oil mods courtesy of Pineapple, and every time I fire the car up when it's cold my oil pressure shoots up way past the gauge limit and then slowly comes down to about normal. Can there be pressure in the oil pan because of that? I have a new purge valve and no lung mustard as far as I can see, so I think the pressure is getting purged alright.

Drove it some more, still not seeing any leaks... Maybe it needs to be really hot or something.

Also when starting it up cold the oil pressure gauge no longer spikes past the highest mark. Just goes up to about three quarter way mark or so.

Finally saw some drops while working under the car with it tilted back. Seems like it's leaking only when pointing uphill or perhaps during acceleration... How annoying, but I think it should last ok until I have time to fix the gasket.

I have a front mounted oil cooler, not seeing any oil in that area or where oil lines connect... I guess something could trickle down, but I'm not seeing any oil except along the oil pan gasket seam in the rear right.

What's in the top right of my motor? There aren't any oil passages there that I know of.

right rear of engine is an odd place for an oil leak to start. my thoughts are first to a rusty oil pan..perhaps since it leaks on an incline, a faultly omp gasket or line(s)..but both would leak even when NOT on an incline. can you take some pics and post them up. sounds like its leaking elsewhere and dripping to the area you see the leak.

Sure its not you MOP? Its on the right side and it may just get blown back
by the fan as it follows the seam of the pan or if pointed up hill.

I don't have a MOP, it's blocked off. But maybe it's seeping by... Fan blowing it back sounds like a sound theory, though it doesn't explain why it only drips when the car is tilted back. But I'll check that too.

Are you sure the drips are oil? Some dirty coolant might look a lot like oil, coming from a leaking gasket in the intake manifold, which would drip down on the rear right side of the engine. Tilting the car back might pour off the coolant that collects up on top of the manifold when those gaskets leak.

Pretty sure it's oil. Thick and slick.

Here are a couple of pics. I marked where there's oil on the gasket and surrounding areas and where it's dry and oil free.

This is the only area where I see oil. Rest of the pan is completely dry and clean.

Found ur problem. The RTV. Should be using a real gasket down there. It may look like its sealed but with RTV there could be a weak spot causing it too leak. Im sure ppl have done the RTV and have had no problems. But you are and i would say that its the RTV gasket job.

I read that even with the gasket you need to use RTV. Doesn't look like there's a gasket, though. Yeah?
