If just one person stops spreading the myth, then it's worth my effort. Don't even get me started on ATF and MMO...people should start thinking for themselves instead of blindly jumping to someone else's conclusion.
You should read the owners manual so you can see that is not a myth, it clearly says that mazda recommends not to use synthetic oil in rotaries.

Is it being burnt off or is it collecting in the form of a sludge in your engine. If racing beat is correct, the oil must be burning off - OR - they are not running the OMP and using a premix (synthetic??) as noted above. Anyone have any insight into this??
i am a certified mazda tech the reason you don't want to use synthetics is because synthetics are made to not burn, where reg oil will burn and leave out the exhaust. now all the synthetic oil that does not burn stays in the housings and crystalizes and adds friction wich robs power. i premix mine the stock omp has been removed. sorry i only started reading this post and did not read till the end so if this has already been mentioned my bad. premix is the best way to go

i used royal purple... dam its expensive, not sure if i noticed much of an increase in power tho... this seams to be an old thread... can't believe people still debate that...

I'll follow what RB has to say, they know what they are talking about, perhaps more than mazda... or at least most of the mazda techs

Use synthetic in the engine oil, use the separate OMP tank mod w/2 cycle (good brand and enough for a few tanks) good to go.

I like to run seafoam once n awhile down the carb and let some premix soak in the engine randomly, it's like taking the engine out to dinner lolol.

Idemitsu Racing Rotary Engine Oil 20W-50
(Full Synthetic)

The same oil was used in winning 1991 24 Hour LeMans race. Nothing proves its quality better!

I`m running AMSOIL interceptor for premix and am convinced that my next oil change will be with royal purple 10w30. And my FC I only use it on weekends, highway driving is way more fun than stop and go traffic.

The zinc is a high pressure lubricant additive that is needed for protection of the cam and lifters in a flat tappet engine.
Roller lifters do not need it.
Rotary engines do not need it since there are no cams or lifters.

What about how it burns in the motor does the zinc have a negative effect? Other than clogging the cats?

But that would help offset the extra UV we all get from the ozone hole... I demand an eco-credit!

Well from what ive found its probably not good to run a zinc oil in a rotary. Because it has no benefits and it bonds to the platinum in the catalytic converters.

Ever drain oil out of one rotary engine and dump it into another? That's what I do. It's cheaper than buying new and saves mother Earth. I call it the great rotary oil rotation.

Amsoil 5W-40W European Car Formula.

On a side note Amsoil has published a technical service bulletin TSB: MO-2007-09-06 on the use of synthetic oil in the Renesis engine. What it says applies to all rotaries I would think.

Here is the link

I used royal purple in my repu's motor, with an OMP, and the internals are INCREDIBLY CLEAN. Very little carbon on the rotors.

Of course I use SeaFoam in the gas tank a lot.
