Official vented hood update thread
I'll be using this thread to give you a step-by-step on how the A-type vented hood project is coming along. In order to keep this a quick-reference thread and not a multipage mess, please keep questions on-topic and read the two other threads first to avoid repeating the same questions. Thanks in advance
-We've poured the splash-mold of the underside structure and are waiting for it to fully dry. Special attention was paid to keeping the hood latch, hinge, and prop rod points well referenced so they can be included in the new part.
-Next we'll be making a reshaped underside with the ribbing reshaped to go around the vents while keeping the hood rigid
-The original hood is still intact

Yesterday my tona blew a fuel line and puked gas all over the hot engine block. I'm not that mobile now, but I'll try to get up to the shop to snap some photos.

Pictures taken, but they're in Matt's (Moses') glove box. Hopefully he'll post them later today.
We snapped a few of the splash mold of the substructure, and a few of the semi-disassembled hood. The glasser I've assigned the project to BENT MY FRIKKIN HOOD in about 7 places ripping the substructure off, so now he'll have to pound and bondo the thing back to stock before cutting the vents into it

Ok guys, I forgot the camera cable, so there was a little delay here, but here goes...
The first shot is the mold of the underside. The goal is to keep the hood looking as stock as possible and to give some structural rigidity. So the fiberglass/carbon hoods will retain much of the stock understructure, except were it needs to be cut away for the vents.
The next two shots show the work being done on the stock hood to cut away the understructure and get everything ready to cut the vents. Things are progessing, but probably too slowly for everyone's liking, except the glasser. He has a unique sense of scheduling.

slooow progress. My glassman finally got the back structure chopped off the hood skin but dented it all to hell in the process. I gave him ****, because now he has to smooth it out before forming the vents.

Just to clarify since pics aren't available....you are going to be putting a "427" style dam at the front edge of the hood opening, right? What's the latest on this?
The latest Car and Driver cover has the Elise with a vented hood that has no dam and just starts as a cut edge flat that drops to the vents and it looks stupid and cheap...especially with all the nice curves the Lotus has otherwise...when I saw that, it brought the question to mind...

As I've said before a dam is not required on our cars due to the airflow, and such a curved ridge would look out of place on the otherwise angular hood.

Tennis, anyone
You may want to re-think,, even though it doesn't 'need'
the 'dam' it would look more custom then just 2 vents
they don't have to be huge, think of it as an outline, sort-of , so the hood won't look so plain.... my 2 cents
