newbie needs advice

I have a 1st gen 7 and i want to replace the 12Aand put a S5 13B-T into it. I would like to set it up for drifting but also street use. I was wondering what rearend gears I should use? I was also wanting to put around 400 hpr to the wheels. I'm starting my 1st rx-7 and so far really enjoy it. I know if anyone could help, it will be here.

Welcome. Start by searching and looking through the FAQ and archive sections for this section. Pretty ambitious numbers there. If your really intent on doing that you first need to take care of all the mods required for that much power to get to the wheels and stop it too. Good luck.

ford 8.8 rear end wouldn't be bad. It'd be strong. Grannysspeedshop.com; also putting in disc brakes would be a good idea. The car is just like an AE86, underpowered and light (who said this originally?!) IMO, a 12A wouldn't be a bad drift/street car. Reliable yes. Get it ported, put a big carb on and increase power. 400hp might be a touch of overkill.

ya 400hp is way to much power for your level. Unless you are in D1 to compete and wn instead of making money there is no need for that much power. 200-250 is more than enough. to have fun on and is a whole lot cheaper.

1. Fuel pump by AEROMOTIVE or HOLLEY (NOT THOSE PIECE OF **** WALBRO'S) Spend the money and do it right don't cut corner's you will pay for it in the end!!!
2. Fuel filters BY AEROMOTIVE or HOLLEY to keep the dirt particles out of the system. (Believe me the small investments last a life time)
3.FUEL REGULATOR by AEROMOTIVE OR HOLLEY
4.FUEL INJECTORS
5.FUEL RAILS
6.LARGER FUEL LINES
7.INTAKE
8.FRONT MOUNT INCLUDING IC pipping
9.Stand alone or a piggy back is good.
10.Port the stock wastegate
11.And taking into consideration that your block has good compression and your turbo is in good shape you should be able without no problems touch 350 or so, doing no porting to the block.

Do what you got to do that makes you happy even if it's for your own personal enjoyment.

PM ME!!!

Large-sized Playas are excellent spots for pursuing land speed records, as the smoothness of the surface allows low-clearance vehicles to travel very fast without risk of disruption by surface irregularities, and the course of travel does not need to be too precise to avoid obstacles. The playas at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and Black Rock Desert in Nevada have both been used for setting land speed records.

Racing Beat built a record-setting 1st generation Playa car. For the Playas you want a very high rear end gearing. You will need aero kit and a lot of horsepower. What class are you competing in?
