Unhappy My only key broke in TWO!

My only key broke into two pieces right in the center....

On my white car, it broke like 8 months ago, but didnt worry about it since I dont want to keep it...

Well the blue car key broke tonight my best car which I drive around and upgrade often...

I tried to see if the bins really locked and since the hatch usually is so hard to turn the key, it would bend very little but everytime i would bend it back.... well its taken its tole and now i have a two piece key....

What is a cheap solution for this? I dont want to buy another set of locks and what not, and am not willing to spend more than 10 bux on it.... maybe a dremel piece of metal, and then have a real key cut??

Any input is appriciated

Thanks, Andrew

You could try going to the nearest Mazda dealership and giving them your VIN and seeing if they can make a new key for you. This worked for my Toyota truck.

I tried the dealer - VIN thing last year and they claimed that the records don't go back that far. Not positive this is true, or they just didnt want to bother.

dealer is probably the best option. heck, pluck the other piece out, and see what can be done about making a copy. Surely something will work. heck it'd probably be fun for the key person just to attempt it. Imagine the big smile on your face getting a working key!

the mazda dealer is lying to you... I went up there with my vin and had a key made for my 85 gs... it was slightly harder to use because it was a fresh cut key and my locks have wear in em, but they should have the records..

stuck in thier machine.

******* BULLSHIT!!!

I cut broken keys before at the hardware store I worked at last year and had no problems. Stop going to Wal Mart and go to a hardware store ( perferably a local one) or a locksmith.

They really might not be. Has an 84 and u have an 85. Now, since I work at mazda, let me tell you the real deal is, buddy. In most of the common records and books for parts and what not go back to 86 and 85. Mazda made some dramatic change those years about how they kept information. So they probably dont have the info for the 84 model year. Mabey the dealer u bought it from... might.

A perfect example, is the parts department, has all the parts availble on computer on the rx7, for 86 and up. For an 85 we have to bust out the microfilm. Also, alot of dealers dont dont keep information that old on hand anyway. I've worked there since september, and havent seen a FB yet. Plenty of FC's though. The oldest anything i've seen there was an 86, (my car doesnt count hahaha)

I can't believe how cheap you people are, if you can't afford a nice car like an RX-7 and you can't afford to buy the right stuff to fix it get a Chevy.

Pop a door lock out and you'll find a 4 digit code on it... Bring that code to the dealer and they'll be able to cut a key.
