MSD Set up...

Hey guys... Couple questions about putting MSD in the racecar...

1.) Do you have to have two boxes?
2.) Which one is best for these engines?
3.) Setup?
4.) Is there an article or instructions that tell you how to do it?

Anyone had good...bad experiences... MSD over Mallory....Crane over MSD and Mallory... Basically looking for some advice on which ignition system to swtich over from.... is there a noticable difference from stock....Should I leave it alone?

i have heard you need 2 boxes because the trailing plugs still run off the dizzy so the box only effects the leading which is really....what you mainly run off of and need.....so once a rev limiter is active your engine from what i get should stop revving since the trailing plugs wouldnt be strong enough to fire all of the gas and air.....

for what is being installed i have really only seen MSD being used...?....i dont know why its just what is........

writes up here is a very good one.......http://www.smbaker.com/rail/msd6a.html
i have been told to just follow that and your ready to go.......................

hope that helps out
preston.......

You can use 1 box use it in the leading plugs but if you are planning on using the rev limiter that comes with the box it wont work unless you use 2 boxes. 1 for leading plugs the otherone for trailing plugs. Use MSD 6AL. Or MSD 6A that has no rev limiter. Also of course with just 1 box you wont have the performace that you will have with 2 boxes..

I'm currently running an MSD-6al but with a 2nd gen coil, and the trailing on a msd blaster coil. I likes alot! Car feels much better, starts better, and sounds better too.

I've ran 2 MSD 6AL including direct fire. Switched back to a single MSD set up. I didnt notice any difference in performance.

hyper4mance2k, do you have the model number of the coil? is it 8224? I just got my 6al in the mail today, but the instructions said i'm not suppose to use a dis coil (which the 8224 is one of), how has it been working?

It's a DIS coil and it works fantastic! I don't know how it will work with the limiter though..
