Moving an FB interior to a SA22C

Anyone here have experience trying to adapt a 81-85 interior including dash, seats etc into a 79-80 RX-7?

I was wondering what are the logistics, problems etc...

Thanks in advance.

It may work as long as you swap the whole dash. I believe that the back of the car's interior is similar to the series 2 and 3.

that is cool, i am working on fixing up my 79' and I have a chance to get a 82 parts car... i can decide whether to hybrid the two.. or to just restore the 79 to original form.

Well, I think there might be an issue with the shifter location. FB's moved the shifter back a few more inches via a remote shifter. Discovered this after I had bought my 85 parts car, but luckily, my tranny in the 80 is still doing fine. If you find someone who has performed the swap, they could tell you what they did to overcome it. Everything should be a direct bolt in, though; dash assembly included.

Later,
James

the only difference ive notice between series 1 and the rest are the storage bins. I believe the series 1 didnt have sorage bins because of steel thats underneath for some sorta structural support. For the other years it was supported different. I know this cause i noticed that when my friend was installing a speaker box in his 80. Other than that, they should be the same. Also i f you want to completely hybridze you car, you can bolt on the fenders and bumpers from your 82 in your 79.

79-85 interiors are all the same with a few minor differences differences.

Almost everything could be swapped part for part.

79-80 instrument cluster slightly different from the 81-83's.

The 79-83 dash is totally different from the 84-85 dash, and the bolts do not "just line up". Pain in the *** to swap. Ask me how I know..

The 79 (80 too?) does not have rear bins.

If you're talking about switching the interior over, you could swap everything but the dashboard in an afternoon. with no problems.

I like the SA better too, but I am biased. If you decide to go through with the swap, I would be interested in the clock in the SA's guage cluster if it works and the center dash piece that is where the stereo, HVAC controls, and switches go. My clock doesn't work, and my centerpiece was boogered in a bad stereo install.

I'm starting to think that those two "features" were factory-issue
