leaking oil cooler and how to clean out a oil cooler?
My oil cooler leaks on the bottom fitting where it attaches to the oil line.
Is this a problem with the line or the oil cooler.
I got new lines (not yet installed) but I have heard of the oil cooler leaking in this spot.
If it is cracked or something how can I fix it?
Also, how can I clean out the oil cooler.
should I just rinse it out with thinner or gas or something to get all the sludge and **** out of there?

they can crack real easy right there. i have never got one fixed that leaks at that spot. i tried jb weld and apoxy and it never worked. to clean use lacker thinner or mineral spirits and an air hose.

this is a shitty problem, I got it too and have heard nothing but bad things. Most of the time it is the oil cooler that is cracked. It can be welded up but alot of shops dont like doin it, A radiator shop or perhaps aluminium fabrication guys would be the best bet.
Im guessing it would be ok to clean it out with thinner or gas as long as it was allowed to compleatly evaporate before you re-install it. Maybe blowing it out with compressed air would be a good idea. I have 2 oil leaks to attend to ASAP, the oil cooler one and also around my OMP, Im really hoping its not the front housing full of oil.....

Most shops won't touch it, because if it cracks again you might claim they didn't do it right. In addition it's aluminum coated in combustable liquids/vapours so tough to weld.
I had to buy a new one ($700!) but now I know it's good for a long while and has no built-up sludge preventing it from doing its job

well, i had mine welded at a radiator shop 8 years ago. up to when i stopped using it 3 years ago it was still good, and it still shosw no sign of cracking to this day. it's relatively cheap, and was pretty effective in my case, so definitely try that first. if no one is willing (which manntis made a good point), then look into other options.
about the cleaning, i'm sort of at that point now, myself, but i was just going to use carb cleaner.

I basically wielded a A/N elbow on the inlet and outlet so the bottom one pointed towards the engine. The top one I pointed towards the battery and the stainless A/N line doesn't interfer with anything on its way to the front cover. Also, I did let it sit with paint thinner for a few days and a little crud came out.
This was extreme to wield everything, but the fit is unmatchable for a 2nd gen cooler on a 1st gen.
