keeping engine warm...

ok, winter is almost here and i really hate how my car stays freakin cold. now i do the little block the airflow to the radiator trick and that works while i'm driving, but how can i keep my engine bay warm i guess, so when i come back to the car 20 minutes later i dont have to hold the choke. ? any ideas? hahaha

if you get a block heater you do have to plug it in, that is how it works, you plug the car in and it circulates the water through the block and through the electrical coils in the heater keeping the water warm.

Switch to an electric fan with a thermostat that way when she gets restarted it won't blow cold air thru the radiator and oil cooler, which makes it take longer to warm back up.

Here is the lowest tech answer you can get that will work and it will only cost you a dime...actually, you just use that freakin' dime to prop the choke open inside the car. Pull the choke ****, stick the dime in there and let it close on it. The dime has the smallest diameter of all American coins and it's about a 1500 rpm idle with that shadetree trick. At least it was for my '79 and '80...

And to all the coin guys out there that will now correct me or try to, you can bite my shorts right now, haters...

You can use a small piece of rubber hose split down the side to hold it open too .

I've used a binder clip to hold the choke open.

I keep a penny, a dime and a quater in my change slot for varying weather conditions. I lost the magnetic choke when I used the sensor hole for my water temp sensor. Works fine.
