Just a lil Pport thought

I was thinking about doing a Pport project just for fun and on the cheap. I have access to a machine shop for all the milling that would need to be done.

I have a couple of 40mm Karadon carbs that I used to run on my 2500cc VW motor before I swapped to webbers. And seeing how 12As I can get for like 50$ or free, do you guys think that 2 40mm carbs would support a P-port 12a and make decent power.

Like I said it was just a thought on something to do for fun.

Now way. You'll need waaaay more gas and air for a p-port. If Holley 650 is only good for a b-p. Imagine the size holley you need for a pp.

I'm pretty sure there are people running 40mm carbs on regular SP motors. I doubt 40mm is enough for a pp. Maybe 44mm+.

Edit: It does sound like a sweet set-up though. Good luck!

I don't think nectro realized you were gonna use a "pair" of them. http://forum.teamfc3s.org/showthread.php?t=51951

12A p-ports need at least 51 m Idas, I have seen them with modded 62 mm ones.

I'm going to be using a 48 IDA on my 13B p-port with factory style cast manifold. Just going to machine the venturies out and hope for the best till i can boost the p-port.

What kind of power are you looking to get on your Pport motor, Street or all out racepower?

I just might try this idea with smaller ports to reduce the revs.

I run twin 50mm T.b's on both of my PP's. I would say they will give best response and overall power/drivabilty. 650 holley is only equivalent to one 50mm T.B's maximum flow or standard Nikki 13B carby

I was only shooting for like 180-190hp, mainly just wanna do this for ***** and giggles not to make huge HP numbers. I would like to keep it kinda streetable but i think that is different to every person.

180 hp could be obtained without resorting to a PP
I have been racing a PP motor since 1997, and have driven it on the street several hours, and it is very unpleasant in traffic - not streetable.
I have had street ported engines for daily street driving since 1990 - and they are streetable. That is why they call it a street port.

The intake manifold to adapt a pair of 2 barrel carbs down to two PP ports will not be very pretty or efficient. It is hard to beat the flow efficiency of one throttle, one runner, feeding one port.

Like i said I am just wanting to do this for ***** and giggles, max power is not needed, its just one of those things I have got to have, like 2 fds one with a 20b and one with and ls7.

The largest size I can get the Karadons reworked to is 48mm. Here is a link to some info on the carbs i will be using http://www.lowbugget.com/Kadron_carb_page.html just a pair of single barrels. I am wanting to make some small adapters for when I cut my port so I can mount them directly ontop of each port. So it would be one 48mm carb for each portwith about a 2in"manifold" that would keep the carb level and not at an angle.

Just keep the port timing conservative and you could get it fairly streetable.

With a 2" port there wont be alot of housing holding the apex seal.
If it gets too unsupported the metal seals will flex and wear.

Around 52mm is the biggest you really want to go. I have 45mm and 48mm PP's, let me tell you 48mm is big enough. Oh and I do drive mine on the street regularly

13B. I forgot we were talking about 12A PP's. 52mm port in12A housing might be pushing it

lol I hope it will be. Like i said its the only port I havnt had so it should be kinda different. And if it works well it may end up being the cheapest way to go P-port mainly because you can pick up used Karadons for like 200$ and I could make the manifolds for cheap so who knows where this will go.
