Unhappy I smell gas!

I am getting a strong odor of fuel from under the hood of my 85 GSL-SE. It does not do it all of the time, and I can't find any fuel leaking anywhere under the hood. Any ideas?

is it just sitting or do you drive it? cause if you drive it then it is probably not actually leaking so that is good , but i am not that sure.

It makes the smell when it is running, and not every time. I autocrossed it a couple of weeks ago and it smelled like gas when I drove it up to tech and then it went away for the rest of the night. I don't drive the car every day, so it is hard to say how often it does this. I just don't want to burn the car up, it has a pretty nice paint job on it.

Uh oh..it could be the pulsation dampener. I would check that first! If its that, you do run the danger of catching your car on fire.. since it tends to get worse and leak right onto the exhaust manifold.. POOF!

I just thought I would let you know, I replaced the pulsation damper today and so far no gas smell. The part was a little spendy, but better than repairs after a fire. The damper came to $132 and $2.70 for the brass seal from the dealer. It paid to shop around, the dealer by my house told me $150 and I couldn't get it until Friday, the other dealer was cheaper and had it sitting on the shelf.

I was also told I might have to pull the intake, not so, it took me 5 minutes with a 22mm combo wrench.

Thanks for your help.
