Exclamation I can help you.

In the past few recent days I have recieved 18 or more messages asking for emissions related help. Yes, I am certified In Wisconsin and Illinois as an emissions testing/diagnosis specialist. As far as I know I have helped people here pass their previously failed test by diagnosing their emissions printout. If at all possible when contacting me try to have your readings in PPM if possible. Gm/Mi works but is a more generic diagnosis. I am aware this is what the Emissions test station usually provide you all with. If possible try to get some results from a shop 5-gas analyzer. Hopefully I can be of help to you all who fail emissions; I know I've helped countless people from a few other forums. Good luck guys, and don't be shy. I like to return the favor for your rotary knowledge!

BTW, do not post your printouts in the forum. PM me, email is not that regularly checked.

Ok, who can answer what the trick is to getting the Gsl-Se to pass after everything tune-up wise has been done and the cats are new. Note; I already know the answer. Want to see if someone else does. Good luck....

I have multiple answers. But here's a summary. I have many friends who will take care of my FB's.

check this out dude.. i got a 90 camry.. every 2 months or so I have to change the distributor, any thoughts as to why?? and I know this because right before changing the cap.. the car begins to hiccup makes the tranny apprear to slip and skip like crazy. I took the tranny to aamco, a trany repair shop and they said the tranny is perfect that its something to do with the ignition system.. ??? (high in Nx i think or nitrogen from unburned gas not sure been almost a year since last inspection)

once a year I have to take the egr valve thing behind the intake.. out and clean it out with brake cleaner before taking it to an emission testing to pass.

1990 camry wagon dx, 165,000.. winter beater. automatic.. the tranny oil gets replaced every 6 months.. basically every summer.

oil, oil filter, spark plugs, cap, rotor, plug wires, brake pads get done every 3 months like clockwork.

What more information you need?

Drunkclever, I have PM'd you. Doc, I never claimed to know alot about FB's or I would not be on this forum-- but I agree with the Ben Franklin remark. Seriously though, from the only things you said and giving me no o2, co2, hc, or co readings, I would say I would first have to tell you to check your float height, assuming you are carburated. Maybe you would like to share the answer, no? Cheers.

BTW, I didn't start this thread to be an arrogant no it all; I just figured I would offer my professional help in return for the knowledge this forum has provided to me.

::EDIT:::

I double posted on accident-- how do I delete this?

Well....if everything is working, tuned and it still doesnt pass...then thats a fair sign of low compression and a tired engine.
In that case,in order to simply get past the smog test,Id swap the 680cc injectors for a set of 550cc or 460cc 2nd gen,low impedance injectors. It might not run 100% under full throttle load on the street, but itll lean her out enough to pass smog HC testing.Even running lean, rotaries shoudnt exceed NoX levels, unless the timing is messed up.

I did this on a stubborn TII a cousin's friend brought me.It just couldnt get quite low enough on the HC's,even though it ran great.Swapped the 550cc primaries for 460cc N/A injectors, and that was enough to get by.

Ray, don't worry this is not specifically directed at you. I don't expect you to know the answer to this anyways. Not that you are not knowledgeable but you have not been exposed to the nightmares of getting a Se or even a Carb'd rotary to pass without having to worry.

I am going to give the thread alittle bit more time to see if anyone has dealt with it and has the only solution.
And remember this is after everything has been checked out and is operating correctly along with a good working Cat.

Steve, i have never tried that but I would be hesitant to try it with even the 550cc injectors. Remember the S4 and S5 have 4 injectors to work with. The 550cc may not even be enough for it to idle properly or make it way too lean.

rx7doctor, real doctor's are in the business of knowing what they are doing and sharing that information to help people out with their problems, not keeping secrets and playing games with what they know to manipulate people. I know you are just having some fun, but try some politically incorrect jokes or something, don't mess with what's really important about this forum, SHARING INFORMATION!

If you have an idea about how to get an SE to pass inspection, which at least one or two other posters on this thread are curious about, you should share it with the rest of us!

One of my pet peeves, people who use information, or worse, charge for it!

And thanks Ray for making your expertise about emissions available to those of us who might make good use of it.

Ray (the other one).

Ray, For your information I Pm'd the people that asked me directly last night.
And don't begin to lecture me on what I should or not should share with this forum. I constantly on a daily basis share everything I know about these cars.
The other thing you are not aware of is the Pm's that I do on a "Yearly" basis that adds up to more than your post count.

And I never charge for info on this forum. It was not for fun it was to see if anyone else has shared the experience that I have on the last resort of getting a Se to pass or not.

And those you are in Business charge for their knowledge and should because they need to pay the bills to keep there doors open to continue helping those in need.

I think the answer is to make sure your cats are good and hot by doing a hard drive before lining up for the test and keep it idling while you wait so the cats get good and hot when tested.

t_g_farrell, not the answer.

However you are on your toes. That is a very critical part in ensuring that your 7 will pass the emission portion of the test. So you get huge brownie points from me for that answer.
