Holley EFI

Well, since I have the turbo header already has anyoneused this Holley EFI kit? I think with this, a semi-peripheral port 12A and a few PSI I would have no meed to more power and it would be easier to tune than a carb and a turbo

Wankel=Awesome has some experience with the FiTech thing that is similar. He knows *a lot* about rotaries, and here is his thread about FiTech. He researched but I don't think FiTech ever hooked him up with the device itself.

For some practical experience, check out Dario's build thread, starting at post 28 https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread.../#post12123543

He uses a similar device that claims to "learn" your engine, but the rotary presents challenges that the device does not necessarily accommodate in his situation.

All the ECUs with learning function have a learning disability.

If you can't completely disable the learning function and alter the main maps and correction maps to suit your engine the ECU will not work well on a rotary.

I have a friend with a Holley ECU on his turbo Subaru powered car. It can't even learn that piston engine correctly. He has to re-set the ecu before every auto-x run and hope it doesn't do its incorrect learning during the run and get the boost onset lean-out hesitation it likes to learn.

I wish these manufacturers offered a "developer's kit" where you could get deeper into the ECUs because some of the hardware supporting the ECU is cool- like the FiTech mentioned above.

Its almost worth buying and gutting the ECU to get the Throttle Body, Injectors, TPS, AIT, FPR, etc on the FiTech unit.

Go megasquirt which is exactly what you are asking for. Open source software/hardware solution that works on rotaries.

Ok. What would be a good throttle body to run with the megasquirt system?

actually some of these efi setups DO have laptop compatibility. i've looked into these many yrs ago but at that time the cost kept them out of reach, not to mention the inability to retain omp. i do have an idea on a setup that will keep the use of the omp but sourcing parts isn't going so well yet.

i would guess that any of the injected throttle bodies on the market would work with MS system.

That isn't the issue though.

The issues are-
1) If you can't completely disable "learning" function the ECU starts corrupting your maps as soon as you turn the engine on.
2) Not all correction maps are able to be altered (example for rotary is crucial throttle pump setting).

I see someone is working with a Holley Sniper EFI 4150 throttle body on a peripheral port engine!

On the screen I see "Learn Status" indicating "No Learn" and they are only using closed loop at idle (a "0 throttle map?).

Holley Sniper and Holley Sniper Stealth are advertised as featuring "USB to CAN tuning cable and free downloadable Sniper EFI Software give you unlimited control of your engine"

I love the look of the Stealth 4500 throttle body. TB, full ECU, and 8x 1,050cc injectors for $1,700 isn't that bad. Same features in 4150 footprint for $1,500 for the Super Sniper.
Just a no load start and rev video so far, but I am hoping this works out!

a learning ecu and a PP will either go really well, or really badly.

the brap brap misfires throw off the o2 sensor, and a person as an engine manager can just ignore that and tune it. my PP idles at an indicated 14.4:1 AFR, and in fact the rest of my mixture targets are close to a stock S4 FC. the trouble is that if you put an ECU on it, it does NOT know its being lied to, so when it goes and starts making changes, the engine may or may not respond the way the ecu is expecting it too. chances of it ending in a feedback loop that ends with the thing not running at all are like 50:50

on a stock port engine with a plenum, you should be ok. you do have to remember that these systems are designed for an American V8 and American V8's are very weird engines in the scheme of things.

This is very true! Most V-8 and TBI engines have a plenum below the TBI. On my old Holley Projection throttle body there was quite a large passage between the the 2 runners. This allowed the vacuum to be traded from tube to tube near idle. This results in 3" vacuum at idle. I recently found a way to block that passage. Now the engine pulls 9" vacuum at idle. This is a PP engine.

Does this work as well as a Microtech or even Fueltech?

You boys need to get a clue on the system

It is 10 times what the fitech system is

Anything imaginable you want to implement is possible for the most part

Closed loop and learn and two completely different things controlled independently

The only way learn is causing you grief is if you don't know how to implement it correctly

Lack of idle vac or a plenum at low load is no problem. We can run a combo alpha N and speed density

Alpha N at idle that transitions into SD, you are fully in control of how this happens
