Headlight motor problems

I made a post about this in the new member forums a while back, and never really got it figured out and ended up putting this project on the backburner for a while. My passenger side headlight started going down slower than the drivers side. It would delay for a second or two before going down. Then it started having trouble lifting up, and sometimes i couldnt get it to move at all, so i put both lights up with the switch in the dash and left them like that so i wouldnt get stuck without lights. I took out the relay on the passenger side and cleaned the contacts. No luck. Do i just need to buy a new motor? Could I have loss of ground somewhere? What else can I check? Thanks in advance for any help. I just want to get this damn thing figured out already. (My rx7 is a 79)

grounds would be the first thing to check, and maybe the connector on the motor itself. it also isn't a bad idea to lube the linkage

The linkage should be good. I replaced the bushings and lubed it when I first started having this problem. I'll make sure to check the plug today. Where are the grounds? Just the ones under the motor brackets?

After some hunting, I found the culprit. There is a rubber piece surrounding the 4 wires that go to the right motor near the front of the car. This is where all 4 plugs are, and 2 of the wires were corroded completely in half. I cut off all the plugs and reattatched the wires with insulated spade connectors; bingo. Both headlights went up and down. HOWEVER, the right one is slower than the left. I tried adjusting the linkage to match the left side with the **** ontop of the motor, and the arm sinks back down to the bottom as I use it. Does this mean the motor is slipping and needs replaced? I couldnt find anything about this. Thanks in advance guys.

Update: I took off the nut on the side of the motor and repositioned the arm manually to match the left side. This seemed to keep them in the same spot when i reconnected the battery, but the right motor is now very loud and INCREDIBLY slow. It doesnt have the force to lift the bucket on its own. This has to be the motor, right?

Have you greased the pivot bushings? They can bind. Sounds more like the motor is going south, but worth a try.

I cleaned them up and added a bit of lube a few months ago when I replaced the bushings and they seem to move ok. It just seems like the motor cant support the weight. Ive got a new one coming in the mail so ill post an update after install.
