Passenger side headlight stuck open
I have a 87 gxl and the passenger headlight is stuck open.
The headlight turns on but when u turn it off it doesn't go back down. Is the motor blown? Or is it something else?

Diagnosing electrical problems like this should start with the fuse and relay, and then move to the motor and wiring. I think they both use the same relay, so I'd guess either a bad motor or a wiring fault, but... Use this to help you:

The linkage may be catching on return. The linkage is usually a pain in the butt.
See if that is by: switching to Off and tapping the Headlight shroud to the down position.
......
I had a light that would come up half way and you'd have to get out and yank on the headlight for it to raise up all the way. Then it would catch and go up.

Hey mate- can you hear any noise when you try to put the headlight down?
You've probably tried this but one thing that you can try is to wind the headlight down manually, there is a **** at the bottom of the unit, make sure the lights are switched off when you do it. Then turn the lights back on and see if it pops back up and down again.

Ya..sorry about that I forgot the Lights can be operated by Manual "mode".(**** under each headlight retractor motor assembly..sometimes covered up by a rubber cap..or you may see just a white serrated looking ****.
If you follow the Headlight from the Front bumper and reach straight down Under the Bumper, bottom side of the car,you should be able to feel it.
DO NOT put your hands IN the way of that retractor motor as it can REMOVE your Fingers!..(why do you think I type so Crappy?)
If you have to work on the lights Remove the fuse Or disconnect the battery.
