Header and Cat
Ok, I need some exhaust advice.
I can get the Mazdatrix setup with a RB header and a cat. I assume that since the RB header is shorter than the stock manifold + 2 pre-cats, the Mazdatrix cat is slightly longer than the stock main cat?
That would mean I'm stuck buying a Mazdatrix cat if/when I need to replace it, right? Of course by then, my car should have hit the 20yr old mark, and I won't have to worry about emissions. Then I could just get the RB presilencer.
Alternatively, I can get a Mindtrain header and keep the stock cat. Assuming Mindtrain makes an -SE header.
What do you guys think?

Did you check out how much the Mazdatrix grey-area cats COST?? $400+... I'd almost recommend getting a $60-80 cheapy cat and having the muffler shop make an adapter pipe to fit it where the presilencer normally would go, but there are no guarantees as to how long it would last. At least Mazdatrix says the converters they sell are going to have a somewhat decent lifespan...

I was curious if you can mix and match the setups...
Get the mindtrain header, that replaces the stock manifold. A connecting pipe that replaces the precats, a high flow stock replacement for the main cat, and the RB catback to the Primaflow muffeler.
Modularity, you can replace everything one by one as you get cash, but performance of good aftermarket exhaust components. And best of all, it's not Pace Setter !

I have met Dave Lemon - the owner of Mazdatrix, he know's his sh*t and kicks *** on the track, he's a no bull(you know what) kind of guy.
He also know's his Rx7's... If Dave has a longer cat on his street system it's likely that it's a high-flow cat and will deliver more performance. Dave wouldn't be making his own Cat's so it's likely a peice you can source elsewhere, anyway they last for thousands of miles and you won't be needing a new one for about 10 years.
For power seek out Mazdatrix...
The system you are talking about is also the system the SpecRx7 racers use and it only knocks off a little of the max output from the 12A.
Nice system - I am also looking at it to replace my Thermal Reactor and heavy stock 1979 system on my car.

i need to deal with emmisions in cali and so am going to get a custom cat pipe made. that is really the easist way to go at this point. something that will bolt up to my headers and muffler.
i am only going to run it when i am getting smoged (damn smog **** state) so a 400$ cat is not really necessary.

Here's an interesting post from the Epitrochoid website, from two years ago. I've never heard of this company, have you? -
> An aftermarket company (Walker) has certified a bolt-on replacement catalytic converter for first generation Rx-7's. It's a honeycomb mesh-type converter that you can actually see light through, and is more free flowing than the stock converter. And it's a little louder. It costs about $120, plus maybe $60 if you have a muffler shop install it. It's simple to install. I've had mine two years and no signs of any rust.

Only certain areas will exempt older cars, some areas require emissions no matter the cars age.
(and just a suggestion, You may want to keep the derogatory statements to yourself such as "hey hoser" in your title. Some people here dont take kindly to newbee's to begin with (my .02 cents))
peace
