seize/freeze, same thing, rust will seize/freeze your bolts. Not the cold freeze.

Well, 5/8"=0.625"... 0.625" x 25.4 = 15.875 mm ...

I plan on getting new struts, but not expensive german struts... just stock replacements. Will these stuts fit without machining? If the struts are a smaller diameter, will spacers be supplied to take up the slack? What is the stock strut rod diameter, in millimeters?

Antiseize on the bottom perch threads is an excellent idea. I didn't catch what grade aluminum was being used either, hopefully a high strength alloy..

Thank you for your patience =) I'm jusssst about sold on these guys

Jesse

oh, zyrano, how much were those eibachs( for the pair)?

if you want in on this you better do it now, this isnt an on going sale, the guy will only make them in batches of 5 or more.

the stock strut is the same as the aftermarket ones i would think, since they bolt into place, but im not sure.
ALL camber plates for first gen rx7's use the 5/8 bearings actually all of them may fc included.

I know, I spoke to Tom on thursday; I had some alternate ideas to go over with him on.. I think he'll let me sneak in, provided he's not totally done with the first run. =)

I find it hard to believe that the stock size is 5/8", simply because its not metric, and 15.875 mm doesn't sound wholly reasonable.. just my 2 cents of course

stock strut is not 5/8 neither are the aftermarkets, they will have to be turned down, unless the stockers are smaller for some reason
using the stock shocks is not wise with aftermarket spring rates. they will be blown within a week. this includes stock replacements i.e. ranchero, monroe and such

Mmmmmm.. I don't plan on going extremely stiff.. probably just take an aftermarket spring, measure the overall spring rate, increase it by the same percentage that the the weight on the nose of the car increased by. I'm more than likely using Gabriel strut cartridges.. lifetime warranty anyway, but I don't feel that they'll blow once a week.

From what i've seen, just about every aftermarket strut rod is in fact a different diameter, as evidenced by previous posts on this thread. I'm just not too keen on machining the strut rod. (mostly because I'm a little rusty on a lathe... and no, I wouldn't use a dremel tool on them, I don't see how that could possibly work)

Arrrrr, I'm a pirate

My minimum recommendation is to use a Koni red or Tokico Illumina for this type of set up and that would work up to an including autocrossing with some tuning of the corner weights, spring rates, type of tire used.

Hows it looking for spring pricing? I just started looking at eibachs, and the springs are 74-95 bucks a piece, depending on the free height, 7 inchers being the cheapest.. seemed a little hefty to me. Anyone see anything better/cheaper? =) Thank ya

get a quote from shox.com, i got mine for 120-135 (depending on lenght) shipped with tax, so if you are out of state, you'd get it for cheaper then what i got it for.

Shox.com is apparently the ticket. They were the cheapest I found for Eibachs at $53/spring, plus 13 s/h from cali to ohio. $53 is for a 7" x 2.25" 300# spring. Alvin, you used 8" 350 pounders... have they settled down at all for ya? How stiff do they end up being... do you understeer on bumpy curves? I'd like to go as stiff as possible, while retaining some workable traction. Think I remember seeing somewhere that a spring company measured the stock rx springs at like 180 or 200 (i know, variable rate springs are different, but for purposes of comparison, at minimal compression.... it should work) pounds. Then aftermarket lowering springs were around 250 lb.. is it really worth it going all the way up to 350 lb?

thanks,
Jesse

oh and I'd like to stress to those reading this that Tom is currently making nine sets, only five of which are sold/paid for... and i've got dibs on another one, but that still leaves 3 sets, not too late to jump on the bandwagon.

jesse, it's hard for me to answer the understeer question, reason being we are going to be running different rear springs (and sway bar setups), my car does over steer, but that's with 175 lb in the back, and i have 375 in the front. As for settling, i'll try to get you guys a pick of the way the car sit as of today, i have some 6" springs coming in the mail. as for bumpy curves, it actually works pretty good right now, i'm hoping to pick up some mazda comp road race shox to go with the setup, but the koni's right now seem to be doing the job...

Do the road race shocks have the same shock body diameter, are they adjustable, I assume you're using Koni reds now.

Is the height adjustment good with the coilover deal that comes with the kit? They look kind of short. Since there aren't rear coilovers, I'd like to have as much travel as possible for adjusting corner weight. Shimming just plain sucks, and I'd rather not have to do it.

My options right now are A. Use the coilover peice that comes with the kit, with appropriate length springs that I may or may not be able to use with a different kit, or B. order a Ground Control kit with greater adjustability (maybe?), and get some rear springs separately

i don't think gc's kit has any more adjustability (maybe the weld on one does), but you do have the option of getting the adjustable portion from iscraing.net (though currently out of stock).

yes, all shocks for the first gens are inserts, and therefore they all fit the stock housing. So you will not encounter any problem in that respect, as far as i know...

Alvin founr the 8s had his car sitting 1.5 inches above his tires, so he went to 6s and then he can raise the platform to the desired height, ie: fenders level with his tires.
