Front spindle and brake upgrade?

I have a ‘79 RX7 with a 350 swap. I’m planning to swap in a Chevy 8.5” 10 bolt for my rear end and would like to upgrade my front brakes and bolt pattern to match. The rear will have a 5 x 4.75” Chevy bolt pattern. I also need to raise the front end by 2” for ground clearance. My side pipes left me with 2 inches of clearance in the front and 3 inches in the back.

Anyone have any suggestions? I am not opposed to doing my own fabrication if needed.

That would help with the bigger brake issue, but I still need to get the right bolt pattern and 2” of lift

I would even be willing to make a Chevy front suspension work if one will bolt to the strut towers.

you'll probably have fab work to do whatever you chose. but going with something like that might be your easiest option. swapping to 2nd gen brakes means a lot of work including strut towers from an FB, calipers from an FC, brake conversion plates and lines, struts (which are hard to find now), springs etc.

I wouldn't worry so much about the strut towers. If you find something that will fit everywhere else you could easily fab a different bolt up/setup on the top of the strut tower.

If you contact aero space components, they usually make drag brakes. But if you email them and ask them to make a street setup they will. I did and if I remember right, they quoted me less than $1000. That’s cheaper than any other kit out there. That’s the way I’m going to go. Just FYI

Did this include spindles, hubs, calipers, and caliper mounts?

like this kit but with components that are meant for a street application. Look at there street series for other models. They said they can do a kit like those for our rx7. You just need to email them.

So... You need to jack the car up because you put side pipes on and lost ground clearance? I get that in the year of our lord 2022 keeping rotary can be difficult. When you say Chevy 350 are we talking an iron block mouse? Im just thinking of that weight and raising the center of gravity even higher. combined with what looks like 13" wheels. lots of sidewall. This car could be a riot.

I have to ask, why not just run the exhaust out of the rear and not stress about ride height?

Iron block and aluminum top end. From what I was able to gather the 350 is only between 75 and 125 pounds more than the rotary, plus a little for the six speed trans. I also have some 1979 trans am wheels(15x7) to put on after my axle swap plans. Also would like to raise the front because of the air dam, but I’ve battled that since I got my drivers license. As for the side pipes, they’re cool.

FWIW, I fit a 3" exhaust in an R53 Mini. I also fit a complete WRX suspension and drivetrain in it.
Side pipes were not an option
