flooding and no start...

OK , I have installed an aftermarket fuel pump. I turn it on and two seconds later carb is overflowing. I need a pressure regulator and cant find one that is adjustable under 10 psi.

Also no fuel is coming out of the tubes in the primaries. I have removed the rats nest and plugged all the nubbs with rubber nipples. Are there any of these that needed to remain open (nub next to air relief solenoid next to the fuel inlet coupling) other then the two to vent the block?

When I try to crank the engine it will pop every now and then , but it wont catch. I am getting spark to all four plugs. I have tried rotating the dizzy and it causes it to completely stop popping in one direction and to increase the pop in the other . Is this timing related (due to nest removal) or something else altogether?

Sorry for all the questions.

Did the car run well before this? Or has it been sitting for any length of time? If you did both the rat's nest and the fuel pump at once, then you have violated the cardinal rule : only one mod at once, otherwise you don't know which did what. I would say flooding is your problem if the carb's filling up with gas, and if it's flooded, it won't start. Get a press. reg. and it'll probably help

The car has been pieced together from an 81 gsl and 84 gs . THe engine from the 81 ran when the tranny took a crap and the 84 tranny, body, rear end were in good cond when the engine blew. The fuel pump was missing upon purchase . Here is a link to see the project http://members.cardomain.com/dwilliamsfaq ,so you can see I had to do a hole lot at one time .

I did buy a reg today , will put it on tonite.

ok... did you make sure that the little wire coming off the passenger's side of the carby is connected? it tells the fuel pump when to turn on or off...

You got it, the air vent solenoid needs to be left open.

Which wire there are two?
How can I add that feature into the wiring equation?
the orig pump and all wiring / connections are missing. I have the new pump running out of an unused fuse in the under dash panel with a toggle switch. Do I need to run to the ecu , or can I just eliminate the toggle and run the power wire to the wire you mentioned above?

I apprecieate all the help.

OK , the carb is not flooding ,and the fuel level is staying about half way on the sightglass. I removed the plugs and turned the motor over a few times and got most of the excess gas out and let it sit and air out. I tried cranking it again and like before it just pops a little.

On another note, is the choke supposet to stay out if the engine is not running. Mine just pulls right back in.

Someone please help, Im getting extremely frusturated and am running out of time and funds.

If the engine's cold then the choke should stay out if the key is in the on position.

Now for the starting problem. You said the carb was flooding which means you probably have wet spark plugs. You'll need to take the plugs out, clean them and let em dry. I usually put them in the oven. Make sure the battery is fully charged so you have good cranking speed and pour a bit of ATF or oil down the carb. This is to give you better compression when you crank the engine.

If that doesn't work then you might have a timing problem. Have you had the dizzy out at any stage?

I have tried the atf trick to no avail, and yes the dizzy was out to change the thrust bearings and oil pump. when it was removed a mark was made so it could be lined up properly. I have tried cranking the motor and having a friend turn the dizzy as mentioned above.
