You guys will probably think I'm nuts but I've run Dynomax fiberglass superturbo mufflers for years and have never had one problem with them. They're cheap and sound good. They just aren't pretty but that's what black paint is for!

but most of their mufflers aren't straight through i believe... i had a dynomax before. i have to admit, the quality was good though.

Video - 12a - Cherrybomb Turbo

Did I ever post this video here?

The previous owner did this exhaust.
This is an older video, as you can see this was before I painted my wheels, and I was still finishing the work underneath the car.

Gives you an idea of what a cheap system sounds like on our cars.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=3rdCkW1Vs9A

Soon to be replaced with my Magnaflow muffler, and Vibrant pre silencer, and all new 2.25 piping.

Found: Custom exhaust for sale.

Well I bought a magnaflow muffler and a vibrant resonator for close to 200, and I had planned on getting my own exhaust fabbed up andim buying a 12a with a \ RB header on it.

Than just like 10min ago I find this on the local classifieds...$200!!!

Should I buy this, and return my exhaust components? It would be cheaper, and I could do it in my driveway!

some ideas:

your already getting a RB 12a header with your engine right...thats a given

you will be happier keeping the RB header

looks like a pacesetter header and fabed straight pipes..... you noticed in classified,,,,,
not many people will want to buy the pacesetter from you
pacesetter is on the low end of choices

I take it the vibrant resonator is without center section pipes, I am not familiar with the vibrant resonator so it is going to cost more to get straight pipes made, right

the straight pipes by them selves are nice from classified as long as they are thick wall tubing, stainless has a tendancy to crack,,,,, but without a resonator it is going to be LOUD no matter what kind of muffler you choose.

So really what your buying in classified is center section pipes fabed for $200 which you can then have a shop weld on resonators

bad choice RB center section used can be bought for 150 give or take

go back to seller and offer 50 and he can keep the pacesettter header to sell elsewhere then maybe you have something to work with

you still have to get a muffler
Talk here is RB or Borla muffler as good choices

other issues
rotaries eat through exhaust parts, do a search

your stating out with a 12a RB header good choice / from there fab up something from your old exhaust with a straight pipe back to muffler,,untill you find a good rb center and muffler to match your header. Your engine is stock so you wont get much improvement for your money anyway beyond header.

Well here are some factors.

My RX-7 isn't safety inspected, and my current exhaust has a leak where the flange on the manifold meets the rest of the exhaust system. So my car wont pass saftey with that leak. So my car will fail, and that means I wont be able to drive it to an exhaust shop to get a new system fabbed with my Magnaflow muffler and my resonator.

So I could return my Magnaflow and the tip I bought to Canadian Tire, and my resonator back to the shop I got it at, and I would get about $230 bucks back.

Than I could buy this system, and bolt it on in my driveway, which would aloow me to pass safty, cause this exhaust doesnt have any leaks, and I wouldn't have to drive to a shop, and pay more money to have an exhaust made.

Than I'm paying $500 sometime this week for a modified 12a that has an RB header and a Weber intake system on it. So in the future if I wanted to I could swap out the crappy header on the system for sale, and have mt RB one put on.

Im curious about this system for sale, I've never seen a "duel" exhaust like this on a RX-7, I know with V8's they usually have an H or X pipe to help with scavenging, does that matter with a rotary? Will the two pipes perform better than one?

Oh poop on RB. I hate the design of their mufflers, and their too quiet. Magnaflow or no flow if you ask me. Best muffler in the book for a rotary.

If your car is stock like you say, then this Pacesetter header with Monza muffler isn't too bad for the money. The twin pipes were used on the stock setup on 81-82 RX7's. In your situation, I would say get that for now. That will probably last you a couple of years. Might sound like crap, but will get you past inspection.

sounds like your inspection is now before you get the new motor and RB header

can you think of a way to put off inspection till your motor is ready?
call inspection and ask what happends if your car is in the states or unexpectedly unavailable at the deadline for this inspection, can you get an extension in writing from them or faxed to you.

can you get the header form the new engine now and fab a connection to the rest of your exhaust more aft which you did not mention had leaks

just trying to get you out of the tight spot so you can make more reasonable decisions not based on what you have to do now for an emissions check

Im not forced to get an inspection, I could let the car sit for 20 years with an out of date inspection, it wouldn't matter. Im not driving the car.

TII Mufflers on an FB?!?!

My friend bought a TII and hes parting it out.

Im thinking about a custom exhaust system for my 84, and Im thinking of buying the mufflers off him, welding both of them together and than run 2 pipes back from my RB header into the 2 mufflers side by side. The tips would also come out on an angle which would look cool IMO. They look like 2 glasspack. Anyone know if they're straight through design? Think they would sound decent? What would be a good price?

Doubtful there would be enough room.
The stock FC mufflers are baffled, but are smaller than the 1st gen muffler, since there are two of them.If his car has glasspacks or any other straight through muffler, then they arent stock and are likely to be loud.....unless they are Racing Beat.
Just shine some light down one end,and look for light on the other end.....if you see it,then they are straight through, even if they arent "straight".

The mufflers are still on the car. And they just look like 2 cherrybomb glasspacks, but they look stock to me, and still have the factory tips. They're probably only 4 inches round each...so 8 inches wide with 2 of them together

I would think it would look something like this muffler, except a bit longer and wider maybe..

Definately not stock, and they are likely to be LOUD......theres little room for packing material in such a small muffler.
Thats why the RB muffler is so quiet. They are technically straight-through glasspack type mufflers, but they are the same diameter as the stockers. That means tons of packing material and they are made with thick wall steel,so they dont resonate.

I wonder when that exhaust will go to a good home.

Hmm, I don't have any photos handy to compare it to, but that looks a lot like a set of Mindtrain mufflers...
