Engine siezed
Engine siezed
Driving my 84 rx gsl, oil line blew while driving and engine shut down, locked up. Can turn by hand with extreme force on the ebolt...what am I going to find when I open it up?
unfortunately nothing you find will likely be good news. the oil seals likely worn into the irons before the rotor bearing grabbed enough to lock the engine. you may have gotten lucky though. the stat gears and rotor gear teeth likely will be damaged as well.
Did that in a race. I was able to salvage the rotor housings (they were new), front cover, front iron and the Mazda Motorsports rear oil regulator. Everything else was junk. Mine seized at the rear rotor which gets oiled first and was the first part to loose pressure. Installed a really big low pressure warning light after that.
In my case the engine seized because an Aeorquip Push Lock hose on an Aeorquip fitting failed. Since then I only use Aeorquip braided lines/AN fittings on high pressure, high heat applications.

The housings have a very good chance of being OK as long a an apex seal didn't let go. The rotors could be OK but it really depends on how fused it is to the e-shaft. Irons and rotors are not hard to find and reasonably priced. I should have rotors and irons available for cheap. Probably more to ship them then cost. You will want all new oil control rings and side seals.
Won't really know the true extent until it is torn apart.
