Dual Dizzy Front Cover

Because it is 3:20 AM and I am wondering about this.

What all would you need to put the cover on a first gen? I would assume the front cover and respecting dizzys, but is that all?

Does one dizzy run one rotor or one dizzy do leading/other does trailing?

PM KansaCityREPU. He just picked up a complete dual dizzy 12A. I believe one does leading, the other trailing.

stu, the front cover is a straight swap but why would u want to? can't really remember it's been so long but i think one dizzy runs leading, the other trailing. my first rx4 had a 12a with twin dizzy. it was a simple swap to single and electronic dizzy.

No reason really to do it. I would love to hook it up to my MSD setup. One dizzy with no wires is weird, but two?!

Those front covers and dizzys go for a lot I bet.

I have a couple of spare 12A dual dizzy front covers in the pill of goodies I got. I'll have to confirm, but I also think you would need the water pump housing and maybe water pump.

I'm with you, I don't see a valid "mechanical reason", but the "scatch your head in wonder" reaction would be great! I think it would look even cooler if there was a way to use 2 crankcase sensor units and direct fire. Everyone that looked at it would double take and think. Nice to know I'm not the only one thinking odd mechanocal "frankenstien" things in the middle of the night.

Yeah, water pump is different, but the two distributors turn in the SAME direction. I've thought about it too - using a CAS in one spot to drive a megasquirt, and a modern dizzy in the other hole for spark. Why? Just to do it.

I spent some time pulling CAS's apart and measuring stuff for a similar project. I want to run a twin dizzy on a vintage race car but have the electronics of a megasquirt. Ignition is free in vintage as long as it runs through a stock distributer.

So, using a MS as an "Ignition box" I got as far as figuring out how to install the toothed wheels in one dizzy. My concern before I got sidetracked was about running the spark back through a cap and rotor above the wheels.

Hmm. Well that is strange.

I was helping a friend rebuild an engine, and I had old plates (did not know that at the time). When we used his housings with my plates the tension rods did not line up. I cannot remember which rod it was, but I believe it is either 12 or 17 that did not exist on the older irons, when looking at the Haynes for the RX7.

Makes me wonder how much more different the "new" 12a's are from the "old" 12a's.
