Does this sound Plausible?

Buying an '81 with original re-built Nikki. The car is not running right now due to "flooding". The owner says he ran the return line to a portable gas can and the flooding problem went away. He suspects the return line to the tank is plugged up at some point. That sounds reasonable to me as well. Anyone ever encounter this same problem and how did you fix it? I plan on pulling the tank as soon as I pick up the car. Hopefully, this will fix the issue. Thoughts?

Maybe, but then again, can he demonstrate this solution for you when you look at the car? If not
I wouldn't pay much attention and just assume the fuel system and carb will need a good going
over to get it running.

Blow nozzle in the return line with 125#s of pressure behind it. That should solve any clogging.

Okay, thanks for the replies. I think I will first drain and drop the tank, then blow out the lines. I'd bet the tank needs some attention anyways.

Why go to all that effort? Just blow out the line from under the hood. Take the gas cap off first.

Needles and seats were not changed thank goodness. I'll try blowing out the line first then. Thanks.
