Coolant leak! Need help on fix
So I got my new engine in last night and it runs pretty well, all things considered. However, it is leaking coolant from the heater core fitting, where it (threads?) into the engine underneath the oil filter pedistal. How do I fix this? I don't see any hex for spinning the fitting out, so I have to wonder if it is a press-in fitting? Anyone have an idea on how to get this fitting out or how to stop the leak. It isn't a huge leak, just a drip every few seconds or so.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Can you post a pic of the leak? I do think you right about that fitting being pressed in. I have a few irons laying around and I dont see threads just a hole where the fitting was.

Hey Man I Looked At My Service Manual And I Looked At My Gs And Noticed That There Doesnt Seem To Be Any Way Of Tightning It Up It Probably Has An "o"ring Inside The Engine And Thats Whats Leaking You Said Its A New Engine You Should Ask Whoever Built It If They Will Warranty The Leak. Hope Its Of Some Help And Never Mind The Screen Name.

Are you sure it's not a seep elsewhere and running down to collect in that spot, Matt? And when is your next day off? The PO will send back those bushings if we don't pick 'em up soon...

The fitting is a press-in. I was able to remove the one in my last engine with a pipe wrench to loosen it, then vice grips pried with a screwdriver to remove it. Needless to say, this will ruin the fitting. I imagine you can get a new one from Mazdatrix or Pineapple Racing (they seem to have everything).
If your fitting's in good shape, you could probably tap the inside, thread in a fastener, and rig a dent puller to remove it. I've done that for various other press-in fittings so as not to damage them.
When installing the fitting, use some silicone sealant around it to prevent leaks and tap it in with a block of wood to prevent damage.

No -- the high carbon content in cast iron makes reliable non-brittle welds very difficult. You could possibly braze it, but the crud in and around the joint (sealant, coolant, corrosion) would make that iffy. Not saying impossible, just difficult. Doing this without disassembling the engine makes it even more challenging.

Well, I was up against a wall, time wise, and throw a bottle of stop leak in the coolant.
No more leak!
I doubt it'll be permanent, but at least it gives me some time to suss it out...
