Conversion to fuel injection

Hello

I'm going to be running a rebuilt, bridge ported 13b in my FB. Im going to run twin throttle bodies and im wondering what I will need in terms of the fuel system.

I know ill need an external EFI fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator and fuel lines. But will I need a surge tank and/or special fuel filter, or anything else? Also could someone explain how the whole system must be setup? How pipes are run etc.

The engine is at the builder at the moment and my throttle bodies and other bits should be arriving this week, ill post pics and keep you updated.

Thanks

Halo There fello South African!

Ok,let me give you a run down :

1.Nice highpressure high flow EFI pump Volkspares/Mr turbo etc sells these.
2.Some nice big injectors. You will probably need 4x720cc on a BP,or even bigger.
3.Ad a nice big fuel filter, perhaps one off a VW 2 series(golf and jetta uses the same,as they are relatively cheap, and very big.)
4.You will nee bigger fuel lines than the Rx7 currently has.Current ones will work, but not give you ultimate performance.Pref go for 8mm feed line.
5.Will need a FPR (Fuel pressure regulator)if your current fuel rail doesnt have one.
6.Will not really require a surge tank, only high hp Turbo engines normally needs these

Give us some info on the injection?

1.What EFI will you be using?
2.what size TB`s?
3.Will the engine be running open exhaust,or silenced?

Which town in RSA?

Hi, I am going to be running a megasquirt fuel controller built and fitted by a guy here in Cape Town, I have a set of 550cc injectors from a turbo 2 13b and was hoping to run these, according to the calculator here on rx-7 club those injectors on 80% (is this safe on these injectors?) duty cycle should handle 253bhp or 187kw which is about what a bridge is known to make, although if its vitally important i go for larger would it be ok to run two 550's and two larger ones? I have a 3" exhaust system with one large straight through presilencer and rear muffler.

Regarding fuel pump, how many liters/hour would you recommend, and is 6 bar sufficient?

Don't forget you will need to use "EFI hose clamps" on your fuel lines, not just the Carby(normal) hose clamps you will have on there now.

The EFI hose clamps can withstand the higher pressure you will be running in your fuel lines, it will get very interesting if you blow a fuel line off while driving!

Hi.

550cc injectos will be fine,as the 13B 6 port uses 460cc.

You can use a 150l/h 6 bar pump will be best suited.

Tweakit tb`s?very nice!

Once question, why are you using the locally produced mrturbo do run the fueling?

Good point Cam : Use the proper EFI clamps, not the old carb ones.

I need some help. Can anyone tell me how I will run the fuel lines?

Logic tells me that a will run a short line straight into the fuel pump from fuel tank, that line will then go through the fuel filter, from there it will go to the first fuel rail on the throttle bodies, then to the second fuel rail, then to the fuel pressure regulator and will then return to the fuel tank.

Am i correct in my assumption?

Put the regulator before the fuel enters the TBs. I go:

Tank->Filter->Pump->Regulator->Filter->Fuel Pressure Gauge->Carb->Restrictor->tank

Hope that helps.

But with running EFI wouldn't I require that pressure builds up in the fuel rails? Wouldn't this mean the regulator would be after the fuel rails and would release fuel back into the tank to keep the pressure at desired level?

Im probably wrong but I would just like an explanation of how it all works.

On FI, you want the regulator after the injectors. This is how Mazda has thiers set up. This prevents lean spikes at high rpms.
