Comparing
Hi,
Being yound and not that experienced with driving, I have a question for you guys. How does the rx-7 compare to the cars of it's time. How does it compare in handeling and straight line performance against the Cordia, 280z, Celica and particularly (since I considered buying one) the mitsubish starion (I think it was the crysler conquest in the U.S).
Just wanted to know.
Thanks.

Of all the magazine tests I have available to me, the RX-7 owned against everything but the 924. It was about even with the 924.
The Starion was sold both as the Mitsubishi Starion and as the (Dodge/Chrysler) Conquest. Most people here call 'em Starquests.

The Toyota Sprinter (also know as the Levin and AE86) is a four banger. It's developed a bit of a following, especially in Japan where they're very popular among the drift crowd. Nice car.

Sold here as the corolla GTS (it is RWD) till 86 or so.
As for comparing, I always said I would put my 83 up against anything else this side of a Porsche made that year.

Does anyone have any links to sites with reviews/tests of 1st gens? I would be really interested to see what people thought of them at the time. In a straight line wouldn't the first gen be beaten by cars like the starion and the turbo cordia? However the rx-7's weight would be a huge advantage, making it more nimble I suppose.

MY 7 isn't running yet but I'm thinking that the 7 is faster than a 240sx. I'm hoping that it's faster than a supra. once I get my car running think I should put money on beating the 240?

Besides, its really worth it when the Japanese tourists come to town. They all went to arbys one day and I was getting out of the Rx as they were unloading. They all pointed and were talking in japanese and took PICTURES of me and the RX-7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were gawking at MY car and not the shiny BMW next to it! Now talk about apreciation and make you feel all warm insideness!
