cheapo presilencer?

Would an Edelbrock RPM series muffler last in place of a catalytic conv. as a presilencer? If not, what do you think would (excluding the actual presilencers from RB)?

when it comes to exhaust components, cheap = more expensive. You'll be replacing them every 10-12 months.

Buy high quality exhaust components once rather than crap several times over.

On a car that sees 3 to 5,000 miles per year, I don't need any kind of million mile gaurantee, just something that won't burn up right away (or at least not before the rest of the Pace-Setter stuff dies). In fact, to that end it would seem the cheap stuff I've already got and wish death upon is holding up forever just to spite me!

Use a Magnaflows 4" round muffler with 2", 2.25 or 2.5" inlet/outlets. Have flanges welded on for fit http://www.magnaflow.com/03cat-back/...steelround.htm It has stainless steel packing. They cost about $70 and are comperable to the RB presilencer.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I think I have a plan... gotta get the brakes back together first though before I worry about the exhaust.
