Carb help!

Hello all, I just bought an 82 GSL yesterday but I am having some problems with it. The engine will start with starting fluid and will only run if you keep it above 2k. I have no idea if it is a vacuum leak issue, a float issue, or anything. It has been neglected for many years so I'm sure there are many things contributing to the issue, but does anyone have any insight on what to check for? I really appreciate any help and I can't wait to dive into this project.

You need to go through the fuel system first, then the carb, then make sure the ignition is working correctly. New gas in tank, replace filter, make sure pump works and pumps t he right pressure (3 psi) and volume (1 gph). Carb may be gunked up and need a rebuild (do not use the new needles and seats in the kit). Next is seeing if you get spark on leading, ignore trailing at first. Don't mess with floats or timing yet. If it was running when parked all that probably is at the right adjustment. May need to squirt some oil in the spark plug holes and turn by hand to make sure it has compression on first crank. Do some searches and read a lot more before jumping in and messing something up. Keep us posted.

and maybe post a build thread.

Thanks for all the help! Fuel pressure and flow are good, my guess is that it's a pretty large vacuum leak somewhere in between the air cleaner and the housing since it won't run at lower rpm. I'm doing a smoke test this weekend so I'll update this thread with what I find

Just finished the smoke test, the weird thing is I could only see smoke coming from various parts of the air cleaner. I'll obviously have to fix/replace those. but they didn't seem major enough to make the car unable to start. I think after I fix this, I'll need to do a carb clean and rebuild. Thanks for all the help.
