What things should I consider when reviewing possible cars/people to sponsor. Never have, so any info would be helpful.

thanks in advance for any help.

When you go to sponsor people and their cars before anything else you need to realize that most people do not have large amounts of money to be pumping into their cars...and that financial assistence in the form of money is probably required...I know that I myself applied for full sponsorship to finish my car...making sure that they were aware that I had little to no money to put into my car due to university and other such expenses...they agreed...but then somewhere in between my need for money to get my car finished and their sponsorship of various car companies they decided only to give me quasi-sponsorship...which means I only get discounted parts...well alot of good that does me...I don't have enough money to buy a bucket of bondo let alone buy wheels that are normally $800 a piece for $600...so I had to pull out because there was no point...the quasi-sponsorship was absolutely useless in every sense of the word...you need to look at whether they want a stock restored show car...or a tuner car...how much work is needed...if they are willing to advertise your company on their car...how many shows they would attend...I know that myself am constantly on the look for someone who will take the chance and help me monetarily to finish my car...then the final thing you need to decide is do they merit a sponsorship in your opinion...is one candidate more suited than another...it is unfortunate that many people over look these first gen rx-7's with alittle money they can be an absolute work of beauty in original form or all decked out with a body kit and a killer motor...all they need is alittle TLC in the form of $...hope this helps...keep me in mind too if you ever decide that your in the market for sponsoring a car on the brink of completion with a needed cash injection...hope this helps alittle...sorry it was so long

i agree with lee lyons, there has to be ambition in the person that your concitering....take me for instance i would love a sponcership then i would do the mad tuner look with the bad *** engine that i would rebuild myself and of course looks are a must...i think that i would come out with something that no one has ever seen before, and theres my ambition to get that car to that level, im really picky when it comes to tuning my car, im still doing it and putting everything that i have into that car even tho i end up broke in the end but its worth it to me....if anything me and lee lyons gave you more then enough info. but im sure that there plenty more were that came from....good luck on that choice....

thier are a few things you should consider, 1, decide on one set amount of money for a certain amount of time and put in contract, 2, do some basic stuff like make sure they are legit and they actually have a car that runs, 3, you need to find people that actually have time to go across nation to diffrent events like lee said to find out how many shows/events the person could go to. I would personnally go out on the streets/car shows and look for good cars basic mod's to them like non stock wheels, body kit, tail's these basics should already be taken care of before you sponsor them.

This is the first gen. section... if he's looking for help here I doubt he's concerned about body kits and tail lights, I don't think those are the main priorities of most people here. Just my 2 cents.

On the topic: I agree with most of what these people have said. Find somebody with the time, money (at least some), experience, and passion to make a great car. Also someone who's respected among the community would be a good choice.

Also look for someone who can make it to lots of shows and/or spends alot of time at meets or on the streets, maybe lives in your target area (if you have one), and wants to take their car in a direction that you'd like to associate with your company (show or go? a bit of both?)

Lastly, though I might not fit all of my own requirements, pick me

First question: What benefit do you hope to receive as a result of sponsorship?

This should drive your sponsorship decisons on amount of money, type of sponsorship, and who to sponsor. My racing efforts have been sponsored by a wide variety of companies and individuals. Some do it to advertise product. Some do it as an employee benefit (picnic at the race track or car show). Some do it as a way to "get involved" in motorsports and hang out. Some are just nice people doing me a favor.

In all cases, regardless of a comapny's motivation, I worked hard to ensure that the people that were ready to fork over their money to me received commensurate value for their investment in my activity. You should demand the same from anyone you sponsor.

As noted, you should have a simple contract with the individual and ensure they handle themselves in a business-like and professional manner. They are representing you or your company, and are a reflection on you and your business.

It is an investment you are making and you have every right to receive a return from that investment. There are too many sponsors that have been burned by handing money or other goods to people and have never received anything in return.

if this is to advertise rx7mall.com, constantly watch whos posting in the events forums, and actually going to them. If you rummage through the pictures, there are many prominent cars that stick out. the only way to see benefits will be to be advertising at rotary meets, where other rx7 owners will see.

if its to find more dealers for rx7 parts to post their ads, you'll want to find people going to the bigger rotary events, as well as events where there will be vendors, typically they carry SOME kind of part for rx7's, and would carry more if they saw more rx7's at these 'open' events.

the person you pick whether they own a fb or they own a toyota mr-2...most of them arn't going to have a-lot of money and what they do have is injected into their car...and that said money is a must for most owners...the car picked doesn't have to be all sparkly all ready...whats the fun in that...the fun is the before and after pictures with your companies name beside it...sponsorship is a recriprocal agreement...but don't forget it is a love for your ride as well as a sense of pride for who your supporting/ advertising for...good relations between sponsor and sponsoree is crucial...everyone would love a sponsor but the truth of the matter is that not everyone will get one...and for most people thats okay...it'll just take their car alittle longer to get to the picture they have in their minds...
