Broke a solenoid...

So... was trying to get fancy tonight and replace my vacuum lines with some nice colored silicone ones and I broke the nipple off of the top of the first solenoid (original hose was stuck on there so bad the plastic gave out before the hose let loose). Looking in the FSM it looks like its the leading vacuum control solenoid. So, what exactly does this do? And I'm guessing that my only option is to find a used one from someone on here (or bite the bullet and remove the rats nest)?

Also, any recommendations on how to get the remaining vacuum lines off without snapping the rest of the solenoids?

Oh, and this is on an 85 GSL.

Don't pull straight up on the hoses. Start by taking some pliers and very lightly squeeze the hose where it grips the nipple, then carefully twist the hose back and forth. If the pliers slip, add a little bit of pressure and try again until the hose moves, which will probably seem like you're snapping something. In reality, you're breaking the decades-old seal that was virtually gluing the hose to the plastic, and usually that alone is enough to allow you to pull the hose straight off safely. Otherwise, keep twisting back and forth and slowly ease the hose off the nipple.

I have that solenoid you need... if your A/C isn't working or you aren't using it, I'd trade my solenoid for your throttle opener, because mine's broken.

Is there anyway to bypass it temporarily or is my car dead in the water until I get a replacement?

mazdaverx713b: If you have extras I'll take one off of your hands. How much do you want for it? I'll pay extra for expedited shipping too! Would be shipped to 13830. I'm going to attempt to get the rest of them apart tonight (and will try to be more careful with the rest) so I may need some others if I happen to snap anymore off...

OK, quick update... got the vacuum lines replaced, but not before breaking another solenoid... this time it was the Shutter solenoid.

Then I thought about it... in my spare time I fly model airplanes and remembered I had some dang good glue that can hold anything together on my planes, so why wouldn't it work to glue these back together? Good news is that they are back together and on the car, and the car started and seems to run fine and the solenoids were holding together!

Now for my next questions... if these solenoids happen to come apart on me while driving down the road (leading Vacuum control and shutter solenoid) what will happen? How can I tell that they are working properly right now after the glue repair?

Also, if you have extras of each of these mazdaverx713b, I would still like to buy them off of you to have on hand.

Yep get some of those replacement solenoids, folks are throwing those rat's nests out all the time. I've got some if Dave can't help, just post a photo of what you need.

Thanks guys. I've circled the ones I need in red.

If you have a paypal address, let me know what it is and how much you want for them and I'll send it your way along with my address.

Also, do you know what will happen if I drive the car and they come apart? I just want to know if it's safe to drive like this or if it can cause some damage if they come apart while driving...

Hey guys and gals! Listen up! A word of advice for all trying to remove hoses from those solenoid connections. Take a micro torch or heat gun to the hose where it connects to the fitting on the solenoid. Will come right off after heated. Heat the hose, take a pair of pliers and gently twist. You`re golden!

Yep, another good way to do it if you have the part off is run it under hot water for a minute.

Also it helps to use a pair of pliers to GENTLY rotate the tube on the nipple to break it loose (without breaking the plastic!)
