Re-adjust the strut so the wheel clears, then adjust camber at the top instead of at the strut to knuckle bolts.

Had to do that on a 3000GT. THAT was a nightmare... I adjusted camber to spec, and the right front wheel was VERY close to the strut. As I was backing it off the alignment rack, the wheel weight on the inboard lip ripped the ABS sensor wire in half. Of course, this happens at 1/2hr past closing on a Saturday... grrr. Brought car back in, soldered ABS wire back together, adjusted camber a bit more positive, then slotted the strut tower holes so camber could be brought back to spec. I was not a happy camper that evening!

It would take some drilling to get my struts clear of the tires. I just bought new 205/55's anyway. When they need replacing, I will try drilling a bit and see what I come up with. Sucks not being able to rotate your tires, I have 225/50s on the rear and 205/55 on the front. Directional tires and rims too.

Anyone interested in some decent 17" Fittipaldis with practically new tires? I've already had several people ask about them, what is a fair price? I may just list them on eBay if there's too much interest.

Split the difference with ya, I like 16" 's

Yeh well thats some of the main reason I went for 16's, Alot of the best tires arent avail for 15's. I think 16's look really good on a 1st gen, not overkill. My websites down so cant post pics but....They give me a woody

Why are so many people going for 15s? For most cars, the bigger the better. 19s aren't practical at all, but they look good. 18s will work on a lot of cars, but maybe not on the 7. 17s look great. The bigger the rim, the heavier it is going to be, but you will have less tire. I don't think you will gain that much weight by going to a size or two larger rims.

I don't know about that.. I think most of the time you will, depending on how you pick your wheels. Unless you want to run huge brakes (which are overkill on light FBs) I don't see any purpose to big wheels other than expanded tire options as previously stated. I think if I had the $ I'd probably go for 15s or 16s, but only the light variety such as panasports, etc.

if you go to large on the wheels, then you will not be able to have much rubber. and there gets to be a point where minimal side wall is worse on performance, and a greater risk of damaging the rims

how is the acceleration with 17s? Also, what does everyone think about the 15" K1s by kosei?

peejay - Why is bigger better? I believe you yanks say "bling bling"

nopistonsforjoe - Acceleration is fine. I ran 11.8 @ 118mph on my 17s and street tyres as well. The car did a 1.7 60ft.

So I guess the best is 13" for performance, eh riff? I like 14s but I guess I should go with 13s for my drag car. By going 13s, can I go a lot wider than other guys that are increasing their rim diameter?

that is not quite what i ment... what i said was if you go TOO large, it can be worse.. because then you have no side wall... with 15's you should be able to run 225/45(50) with no problems... and that, as far as i am concerned, is a good ballance between rim and sidewall. now 17's will not be that big of a difference, but you are going to have moer of a risk of damaging your rims. any larger than that is a waiste.

Acceleration is affected by the weight of the entire rotational mass, and the outside diameter of the tires.

Personally, I went with the 15" wheels to get wider tires, and to stick with the "+1/-1" theory of tire wheel sizing for better handling due to less side wall flex. Meaning that up sizing the wheels by one inch diameter allows for keeping the outside diameter of the tire approximately the same while cutting the side wall profile by an inch. Stock SE wheels are 14".

The fact that my wheels came with the car when I bought it merely helped to cinch the deal. I had already justified 15" X 7" wheels in my mind. Having a "free" set (needing fixing and refinishing) right in front of me helped too.

Well, sort of. They came with the car when I bought it...

One was cracked and bent, and two others were just bent. All four were painted white, but the paint didn't match the car very well. I had them straighted/repaired, bead blasted and powder coated to match the car to the tune of about $250. And I bought new center lugs (old ones were faded badly, and hacked a bit) for $80. So I got "free" wheels for about $330.

Still a deal, but not as good as it sounded I guess.

Any of you guys "old school" at all!?
All I ever see on this site are photos of really modern rims on what I believe to be a car with a very classic style.
I personally don't go for the 'rice-wings', or Uncle Bens front air damn, either. Has to be really particular to appeal to me.
Don't get me wrong; I'm not at all opposed to body customization. But My plans are to keep it "classic" looking...right down to the wheels.
I have recently aquired a set of slots (Yeah, that was me looking for them last year too)-- 14x6 for the fronts, and 14x8s for the back.
They came with tires on them. The fronts are garbage truck tires, but the backs are BFG Radials, 265s!! I can't use em.
But what can I use? I want wide.

And does anybody out there share my taste?

Show pictures!! If you're talkin' about what I think you're talkin' about, not only would i love a set, but I have a set sitting in a shop somewhere that just need to be modified from 6x5.5" to 4x140mm (just drill two new holes). Also I know someone who wants a set for his '57 Chev pickup street rod.

So far, all of my exterior mods are old school. My rims are no longer in production, and the air dam and spoiler were OEM stock options...

It's all part of my "walk softly and carry a big stick" plan...

WHOA-OH, THERE, BIG GUY...
You'll have to wait your turn for the privilage of seeyin them pics; just like everybody else!

I have to make adapters for them too fit. they ar 5 mm off, and the hub hole is too big anyways.
But first I have to have a 220 line installed in my shop so I can use my new lathe to do that!

THEN I'll flash out the photos!

In the mean time, I gotta figure out what the biggest, baddest, widest tires I can fit on them are!
