Battery not charging, dash lights came on
My S3 GSLE died on the road. While driving, all the dash idiot lights came on and after a few minutes the car died when the battery ran down. Evidently it stopped charging. The alternator belt is intact, and I don’t see any blown fuses. What specific fuse or fusible Link would cause the alternator to stop charging? There was a portable heating unit plugged into the lighter plug, which was drawing more current. Otherwise there haven’t been any unusual indications. Thanks.
The alternator may have just died. Pull it and get it tested. Also make sure the battery is good too. A bad battery can cause the alternator to fail. If the heater caused the issue it would have popped the fuse for the lighter plug.
I agree with the above. When the warning lights come in all at once, this indicates a critical issue with the charging system. Typically this happens when the belt breaks, is way too loose or the alternator has failed. I would first check belt condition and tension. Next would be the alternator and battery test. You will want to charge the battery fully before testing to avoid any erroneous tests.
