how much of a dim? what does your battery voltage read when this occurs? I'm assuming this is at idle and you have power steering?

Could be anything from your alternator belt being too loose to a faulty alternator. This is normal to a certain extent b/c of the larger load put on the motor when the wheel is being turned on a p/s car at idle...but your batter guage should not drop more than a volt or two (if that).

actually...i dont think the battery gage drops at all..just the dash lights dim...and a noticeable drop too...all the belts seem ( just by eyeing them) to be tight...what else do you think it is?

check alternator connections and your battery connections..you can take your car to shucks and they can test the output of your alternator as well the charge of your battery for FREE. Assuming your volt. guage works correctly. I wouldn't be to worried about it.
