ATF treatment problem

Somebody please put my mind at ease and tell me that you have fouled your spark plugs so bad that the car would barly run, while doing an ATF treatment.

My car is now five miles away sitting on the side of a desolate road way, scared out of it mind. With a new set of plugs ON THE PASSANGER SEAT, and my wrench seated nicely IN THE GARAGE!!!!!!!!! DAMN IT!!!!

Rest at ease. Yes, after doing the ATF treatment start it with some old plugs, which get fouled and blow a big smoke cloud for 20 minutes. Then install new plugs and away u go!

Buckaroo....

You're the perfect example of what I keep harping on. ATF is NOT made to burn, MMO is. If you want to clean your husings and rotors dump in some MMO, not ATF!

Denny,

Denny's right, and if you did the ATF, diconnect your cats (if you have 'em) or you're going to ruin them, while clearing it out.

Yep...Pull a plug from each housing, squirt in some MMO into each housing, replace the plugs, and start 'er up. My avatar is a pic of 'ol Silver burnin' up the MMO!

I still don't advocate using *either* "treatment" unless you have serious compression problems and have nothing to lose short of a rebuild!

Just doing an ATF or MMO "treatment" when your car is running alright just doesn't make sense. The only thing I've used ATF for is unseizing a seized engine. ATF was the only thing that would eat through the carbon-lock short of a rebuild. It was already siezed, I didn't have the experience or money to rebuild it, so I did it.

Either way, the engine is designed for low-octane, high-quality gasoline, mixed with a little oil (from OMP or Premix)... not to have a sudden burst of ATF CRAP blasted down it's barrels...

Grr.. sorry guys, I just get frustrated sometimes. These "treatments" are not things that should be done like oil changes as preventative maintanence... but rather as last-chance ways of getting your compression back without having to pay for a rebuild.

Now you know why I've been touting Amsoil "power foam" and Techron as safer alternatives to ATF for some time now. Do a search as I've posted quite a bit on this subject.
