Hey Stu. Why don't you show them what really happened to that rotor! Well, all in all, today we got alot done. I was hoping that we would have been able to start assembly, but when I was checking over the coolant seals I noticed that one of the inners had a crack in it. It must have been damaged during shipping. I will have replacements for them in a couple of days. Sucks, but I didn't want to take a chance on that one seal being the down fall of this engine. I think we came to a good comprimise on the exhaust ports between torque and top end power. We'll see how well it turns out after break in
Looks nice guys. Nice clean work Stu. Just polish it up a bit and your stylin. Should be sweet. Please don't forget to chamfer the port edges. You DO NOT want to snag a seal going by that.and destroy all your time.

Couldn't really do much today but finish up some wiring in the engine bay.......and the new Tach! Replacement gaskets should be here in the morning so we can button this thing up!

Not too bad for a $30 E-bay tach

The cool part is, you cant see it from the front! Now from the back is a different story. I went today to pickup the gaskets that were ordered to replace the ones I had ordered in the first place. Guess what! Go in to pick them up. Check the box to see if the O-rings were okay. They were MISSING! I almost had a coronary! The guy kept opoligizing, but all I wanted to know was what they were going to do to correct this. After some phone calls were made, he assured me that another gasket set would be there first thing in the morning. Sucks *****. So Stu and I decided to clean up some more parts, polish the RB intake and the alternator. God, I want this thing back together!
Did you end up rubberwheeling the whole alternator? You looked like you were getting comfy in that chair when I left. Traffic sucked, so I think pull-a-part will be on monday

Yeah the super beetles are the least expensive now and have better drivability and a little more room in them. Plus they're about 5 or 600 lbs lighter than an RX. The hardest part of the swap is locating the oil and coolant radiators. Lots of ways to do that. I'm researching it a lot lately. These things can pull sub 14 sec 1/4 mile ETs as well. Woohoo! I'm thinking it could be a killer combo for something like the GRM 200X Challenge some year.
Oops sorry for the thread jack, back to the apex seal party.

Plus the super beetles had better suspension and rear defroster. Were the SB's 6v or 12v systems?

Got the engine finshed up and in Saturday night. Stu took a ton of pics. Trying to get her busted off right now. I'm thinking the timings off or something. I have yet to have one take off the first try. When I get her running, I'll be sure to get some vids
