Another backfire thread. ported 13B
I couldn't find a good answer by using search...so here it goes.
Ported 6port 13B. Running VERY rich. No cat. Any time I let off and press the throttle again KA-BOOM!!! Still is FI.
And another question.
Is backfiring bad for a rotary motor?

heh my 88 TII was like that, but it had a 3" straight pipe, and 720 cc/min secondaries... my 87 backfired sometimes too, especially when i took the mufflers off.... my REPU when it ran loved to shoot flames... my 84 never really shot flames, but it only ran for 15 minutes

Mine does the same thing. The flame lights up all three mirrors at night.
Only experience I have is from a friend of mine, his eats mufflers (we believe because of back fireing) I have the RB system and it has yet to suffer any noticable ill effects.
I would find it hard to believe this could hurt the motor being that it is designed to handle internal combustions of far greater force than a back-fire delivers it. Only problem I could see is carbon from the exhaust getting blown back into the motor but that stuff is in there anyway so....

OK guys I don't understand how it could possibly be pulled into the motor.
1 it's a mixtue being blown out of the exhaust
2 it's not really a "backfire" its shooting flames

is this an original SE or a 13B transplant? what do you have controlling the fuel injection?
if you can't find a safe way to lean things out where you need it, then i'd say play around with different plugs (both type and heat range) and also maybe play with the timing a bit as well.

RB/Prima Flow, in my experiences, can take anything you throw at them ...

Thanks for the input guys. I'm getting more and more hooked on RX7's everyday. I've had all sorts of toy cars, but nothing as fun as this.
