83 bumper on 79

Really interested in the front lip posted in an earlier thread, but it appears like it will not fit a '79. So, has anyone fitted an 81 or later front bumper onto a '79-80 RX7? If so, how did it fit?

IIRC, you can do this, but you have to change:

Front bumper (cover and support)
Lower valance
Fenders

Not too involved, but the fender swap add a potential need for paint.

Too bad about the fenders. I doubt I would get fenders as good as the ones I have. Car is prety much mint, other than the fact it is black, not the original copper color.

The lip you want for the SA front end is made by Kamei originally, then xenon. give a search, there are several threads about it.

This is my SA with a '83 front and rear bumper. I replaced the the front bumper and bumper strut cartriges. I trimmed the bottom of the FB bumper to fit over the Kamei Spoiler.
The front fenders are SA bumpers. The bumper is a direct fit, the only issue is that there are no brackets to hold the sides of the bumper skin. The Fb fenders do have that, but I have had this setup on the car for 6-8 years and have done several track events with NASA and the SCCA and have't had any problems with it.

^^^ That looks really nice. I want to do something similar, only without a front bumper.

EPRX799, that looks pretty cool. nice conversion and by looking at the available spoiler, it should be doable. Here is my current front end. Just tired of the look after 30 plus years

Hi Tom,

Hello from Ontario, Canada.

One of my project cars is a 1983 FB. I will be modifying the front bumper assembly with a Mariah Mode 4 front bumper/airdam. This requires cutting the front fenders. If your SA fenders are in good shape, I don't mind exchanging my FB fenders with your SA fenders. You will need to paint to match your car. I should have most of the front bumper assembly available if you need that as well.

Hi I did the bumper swap on my 79 SA to an FB bumper many years ago. If you get the entire FB bumper with the bumper struts it will bolt right in. There is also a big weight savings if I remember correctly the steel SA bumper is about 33 lbs. the FB bumper was about 15 lbs. since it was aluminum with a plastic cover.
