The 5 lug swap is not cheap. the first gen Rx-7 did not come with 5 lugs. To do the swap here is what you need. The cost can be anywhere from $600 to $1000++ depending on the parts you need.

1. 1984/1985 front Spindles
2. 1984/1985 disc brake and rear
3. Big Brake Kit - I used to make them but no longer. There is a seller on eBay that has then for around $400 which is cheap.
4. Moser GSL or GSL-SE spec axles or the 1984/1985 ones re-drilled
5. Front hubs/calipers/disc from 5 lug 1986-1991 RX-7
6. Rear calipers/disc from 5 lug 1986-1991 RX-7
7. New brake lines that go from the hard line to calipers.
8. Wheels that fit.

Need to finish mine. Front is done but come up with something on the rear. No idea anymore. Been a while since screwed with it. I got a 83 GSL rear but looks like as much work as swapping in a 8.8. At least something I can actually by axles for.

5 lug isn't really an upgrade, it's just more lug nuts.

I had axles made for my 9" that kept the 4x4.5 bolt pattern and I'm probably going to swap an S13 front suspension into the car due to the lack of availability of 4-lug FC bits...
