Normal.

At least as far as my cars concerned.

Also if your cars a five speed, i know this applies for most cars but I'm not as sure about RX's, instead of third being the direct drive. Direct drive being approximatly 1:1 ratio. It sometimes is bumped up. First is quite low, second still a reduction, as well as third but just slightly less so. And then fourth is near the 1:1, input/output ratio. With five being the overdrive. If this is so then three thousand isn't out of the quesiton at sixty miles an hour. Hell I cruise at 3,000 everywhere reguardless of gear.

yea thats definetly normal it's because mazda did'nt design it for a fuel efficient car they designed it to reach it's top speed and sound beautiful while doing it.

Your revs are below 3000 at 60 because you have an '84 and those had taller 5th gears.

Drove me nuts. For the longest time I never used 5th gear below 80mph. Engine's powerband is above 4k, gotta keep it there.

my '84 does about 2800 in 5th @60mph. in fact my '83 did too, since it had an '84 tranny.

i usually stick to 4th until i pass 65.
