Question 12A Fuel Management

Does the 12A come with the computer that the 13b does, and would it be possible to install a component that allowed me to track the fuel consumption/fuel to air ratios and other such engine stats on a laptop?

I'm not trying to be all super high tech here, but when i DO get my engine running, I want to be able to tune it as well as possible.

cheers'

I really don't think so..As far as I know, all 12A's were carbed.

Only exceptions to this might be the
12A Turbo (Not in the US / Series 3 - Savannah)
or Maybe the 6 Port 12A (Japan Only, Never seen it)

Otherwise you'd have to go aftermarket fuel system.
So...

I'd go with the TFAR method, and Log how many gallons of fuel per mile you are driving and get an average.

(BTW - TFAR=That feels about right...) method.

You can purchase an air/fuel ratio gauge, that will help set up the carb at idle, and also help if you are jetting a carb. You can also get a exhaust temp. gauge which will also help you tuning the car.

you could get a wideband 02 kit from OZ! The EGT would be the next best bet.

12A cars do have a computer, it only controls the emissions solenoids.

why not? I assume by air fuel meter you mean those guages that tell you if you are running rich or lean? They plug into an o2 sensor and give a reading off of that. If you put an O2 sensor on your exhaust and you plug a meter into it, it will not matter what type of fuel delivery system you use, as long as you use gasoline. I plan to tune my carbed 12a streetport using a wideband O2 sensor and meter. Maybe even give it the juice with the wideband used to make sure I do not blow the thing up!

I thought a wideband o2 sensor was very expensive - up in the $700-$1000 range. Details please! Who is this OZ! you speak of and how do I make contact! eheh

OZ = Australia... May include areas beyond such as New Zealand and the Oceana area.

They put rotaries in everything and have wicked fast cars. I wouldn't be suprised if someone came on here with a Bridgeported 12A Lawnmover that runs low 7's and is streetable.

I'd really like to live there. I just couldnt get used to driving on the wrong side of the road.

Yes you can use an O2 sensor with a carb... the O2 sensor pretty much only tells you if you're rich, or if you're lean, and it's not much more accurate than that. But it IS helpful as a tuning tool... rotaries will run amazingly well when pig-rich or dead lean, they just don't make as much power.
